Discovering the actual load limit can be exciting.
If the swing is swung vigorously then the load stress may exceed static (still) load bearing.
Swings experience a gravitational force mass times gravitational acceleration
– where m is the mass of the swings and g≈9.81ms^(−2) is the gravitational acceleration
They pass this on to the beam.
The beam also exerts a centripetal force on the swings, which is
mω2r=mv2/r
– where ω is the swings’ angular frequency and v is their velocity.
The two forces are additive so the total force exerted by the swings and the beam on each other is their sum.
Bottom line: it is best to have a significant margin of safety if the item is going to be really a “swing” and not simply a seat.
Yeah, but generally these types of seats are used to just sit and swivel in. At least for adults…
