I really like Razer products but not Razer process. This pair of headphones for $10 is a really great deal. I bought a pair a couple of weeks ago (curse you woot for charging me $15 then!) and think these sounds great!
At the lowest audio setting on my iPhone 13 Pro, they’re still extremely loud. They feel comfortable in ear and don’t slip out. The bass and audio latency are really second to none and the material themselves have a really nice premium feel.
Historical complaints of mine for Razer stuff in general has been durability. These seem to be durable for my day to day meetings and gaming in boring meetings, but I’ve only had these for a bit so I guess too soon to tell if they’ll stand the test of time. Will update if they go kaput anytime soon.
Only $10, but the reviews are sketchy. Very poor English in many of them, lots of “great!” but only 3 stars, one mentions the Bluetooth connection dropping. It’s 2022, do people really still use wired headphones?
Yes
Yes
Totally agree with the volume issue. The ear flanges really help seal from outside noise, further amplifying how loud these headphones are. I’m glad I bought these during a woot sale because they basically just sit in my desk drawer because they’re unusable.
Moondrop has a new USBC set coming out called quarks DSP.
Similar price point. I haven’t tried them but I I wouldn’t mind having a couple USB-C sets in the house just for when I can’t find a dongle and I need something real quick.
Wired IEMs or a huge growth area. It’s obviously not quite as big of a growth area as the true wireless Bluetooth market but people that want lossless audio can’t get that with Bluetooth. People that want no latency and no compression are always going to prefer an analog connection.
Now this is a consumer facing wired product, the bigger growth is companies Moondrop, kz, blon. Chi-,fi. There must be a million YouTube channels that are growing that are dedicated almost entirely to wired in-ear monitors.
For a lot of people it’s not either / or. I use Bluetooth sets most of the time but I am also happy that I have a few wired headphones and IEMs in the collection as well. Bluetooth for convenience, but I want to wired set for when I actually want to listen to good music, pay attention to the music. Or, if I need a zero latency experience.
DJs, musicians, anyone that works in a studio, is going to prefer an analog connection. There’s also a big growth in DAC dongles. Obviously a lot of phones don’t accommodate headphone jack anymore so companies qudelik and fiio have been offering premium connectors that have tons of features like balanced connections, parametric equalizer etc…
Apple and Samsung were definitely premature to pivot away from the analog port. Apple is offering lossless audio on Apple music, and most people don’t even have the right equipment to access it.
Obviously they’ve made a fortune with their Bluetooth true wireless sets but those are absolutely miserable for the environment.
Other benefit of wired IEMs is there’s no batteries, there’s no software. If you take care of them you can use them forever.
Great answer, thanks!
I’m tempted to jump down the “it’s all recorded/processed/stored digitally, including Apple Lossless” rabbit hole, but as someone who was big on McIntosh amps a few decades ago I get your point.
I work and play mostly outside, so the advent of wireless earphones was worth not quibbling over A vs D to get out from the hassle of cord management.
Cheers!
I was literally about to post about the Quarks DSP when I saw these pop up. Got the Quarks DSP in my hands from China earlier this week, and I can comfortably say they compete very damn well. Also own the MoonDrop Chu, Salnotes Zero, and Wan’er SG in this price range. The convenience factor alone is worth it for me, but I actually find myself enjoying their tuning and DSP better. Have also used these Hammerheads, and it’s just not even a comparison. They are also available with Prime now. No reason not to.
I definitely cannot recommend these. I purchased 2 pair of these to use for casual music listening and also for work conference calls on my iPhone. The first thing I noticed was a COMPLETE lack of any bass at all. I then realized there is an app from Razer that has an equalizer so I loaded that on the phone and tried all the settings. They made no difference in the sound other than a barely perceptible rise in high end. Still no bass whatsoever.
I decided that perhaps I had a dud set so I opened the second set and was extremely disappointed that the sound was exactly the same. The next day I tried to use them for a conference call anyway and immediately was informed that my coworkers couldn’t hear me on the call. I switch to my original Apple iPhone headphones and they stated the sound was perfect then.
So I now have 2 sets of total crap headphones that cannot be used for either music or conference calls as intended!
