DO NOT sharpen your knives the way that video demonstrates. You’ll have a sharp notched-in area on your knive (because the backrest is too short, and won’t accommodate the curved part of the blade), you should never strop with a loose, curving strop, and they didn’t even bother showing how to use the angle rods.

For those who have some interest in sharpening blades but don’t know where to start, this set is a good place. You don’t want to invest in more expensive kits / stones until you have a basic understanding of sharpening principles and have developed good muscle memory related to angles. Gaining this understanding can end up damaging your first set so you can’t beat this price for a starter (think I paid 50-60 for a similar set).

‘‘they didn’t even bother showing how to use the angle rods.’’ That’s probably because there are no angle rods .

USING WATERSTONES CAN RUIN A GOOD KNIFE VERY QUICKLY
Unless you know what you are doing.
There are a couple of really good videos on YouTube, and a bunch of crappy ones, about how to use them. There is one guy who specializes in making sushi who shows you how to use them.

You’ll use 3 different sizes, skipping the little one, if your blades are typically dulled. I use two, a 4000 and an 8000, but I also have a 10000 if I want to drop a piece of paper on the blade and watch it split. Your sharpening happens when you are pushing the edge AWAY from you, and you only have a light, if any, pressure pulling it back. Rounded ends are the tricky part, and a round near the handle is darned near impossible.

Still, once you learn to use them you’ll never use anything else.

Dude is 100% correct that the vid is incorrect. Here is a correct vid on how to use these stones:

I use a 1000/3000 stone of this type, and a paddle strop, to sharpen my Wusthof knives. They are sharp as scalpels. I’m just imagining what 8000 would do. The angle guide is crap. Every blade has its angle. You could end up scratching your knife, and/or ruining the edge. Strap strops can round over a knife edge, if you don’t know how to use them.

Lol do you have a natural 30,000? I have one just for finishing the knifes, it’s AMAZING!
The sensitivity of the knife after is perfect.

I tried to buy this in November and woot never sent them. Woot even created a shipping label for ups and just never had the item sent out. Woot said they didn’t have any items to replace my ‘missing’ one (after a month of saying they will get one out asap). So buy at your own risk.

I’m sorry for the poor experience. We do our best to work with our vendors on order shipments. Things do happen especially in the pre-holiday crunch and that’s when your order was. I do see that you were fully refunded.
