ii’ll wait till the 14th, and get te HD_DVD player for 199.00 for xbox 360, 1080p

good deal nontheless, I would have bought if i wasnt saving for the hddvd player

I noticed that the local Target had put this model on clearence within the last week or two for a little over 100 dollars YMMV

dual format recorder, with divx, and hd upconversion? wow, thats a lot of good stuff to pack into one unit. i might get one

does anyone own one of thses already ?

Description isn’t making this clear:

“DivX capability helps you save on blank DVD discs because it compresses video content to fit more on a disc while still maintaining high visual quality.”

Can this ENCODE to Divx while it burns to save on space, or does it only “save on blank DVD discs” if you’re just watching pirated movies you’ve downloaded and burned from your PC?

I need a new DVD player and this one looks pretty cool. Any reviews?

Any one can advise the rating of the products ?

how are the refurbs usually, i have never purchased any refurb electronics

It has a composite video input. Does this mean that you can plug your decrepit, old analog VCR into the machine and get it to record the contents of the tape on DVD? If so, I want one.

Ok, I am electronic illiterate.

Can you hook up a VCR to this and transfer videos to DVD?

I know the description said you can hook up a camcorder, but my camcorder is broken.

But this isn’t a DVR…it is a DVD Recorder…two different things!

woot when can we get one with a harddrive i dont feel like buying -rw

This this DVR pop into existance this morning? I can find a bunch of listings on review sites, but no actual reviews.

The only thing I found was one review from a cached NewEgg page (Thanks, Google!), which gives it a one star. However, the review is very short and critical, so I don’t know if I trust it without a second opinion.

I’m looking to buy/build a media center PC, but my regular DVR busted a few weeks ago and I’ve had no DVD player since, so if someone can give this a good review I might grab one.

Are there HDMIto component video converters? Cuz I have my mac running into my HDMI input on my HDTV.

At least it comes with an HDMI cable like the Toshiba I got last time…but don’t need it…

February, 2009. Many cable operators will continue to supply analog signals for some time.

It’ll be worthless if you get your TV signal from rabbit ears. If you have cable, you’ll be fine with analog tuner till well after its time to replace this thing.

I OWN THIS ONE. I CANNOT RECOMMEND IT.

I am shipping it back to Thomson today. Purchased April 22, 2006, it crapped out last week. Finalized discs do not play in other DVD recorders, and trying to copy video from my firewire video cam gives me an error message that I am trying to copy protected conent. WTF? They’re going to end up sending me a re-fur-crap’d unit. I’ve wasted over $300 on DVD recorders that crap out, I’m going to build my own PVR - the worst thing that will burn out in 3 years MAY be the $50 DVD+/-R/RW DL drive I’ll be putting in it. And they’ll probably be $30 by that point.

I picked up the older RCA Recorder from Woot and while it is not 100% reliable and a bit slow it serves its purpose and i considered it worth the $130. This one is only $90 and dual format (older model was just DVD+R) and are pretty good at playing divx as well.
This won’t substitute for a TiVo but it would be a good replacement for a VCR.
