Not sure how 200 thread count sheets are “seriously soft”. My experience with 100% cotton sheets says anything lower that 400 TC is like sleeping between cardboard. You need > than 400 TC to begin to be soft out-of-the-package. And to be really soft you need 800 TC.
Thanks for the tip! We got our first ever king size bed yesterday (a gift from my mother-in-law) and have discovered that while we love the spacious size we will need some kind of topper (gel, foam, feather??) and way better sheets than the 180 thread count she gave us. We’re clueless on both counts and any and all tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for saving me the same fate!! I’m also looking for full size. Too bad, I’d have been in for 3 since my 10 yr old couldn’t care less what sheets she has.
You can buy equal or greater quality 200TC at your local WalJohnson or Tarjay for roughly the same price and avoid the $5 shipping, which Woot should offer for free if you’re a mothership Prime subscriber. Return would be a lot easier too.
Exactly. They become soft-ER, but stay cool and crisp for years, they don’t shred like cheaper sateen-weave sheets. 200TC is perfectly fine if the threads are thick enough- I just got rid of 22-year-old Ralph Lauren percale sheets that were 200TC.
We bought a set of these, got them REALLY quickly – within two days of ordering! – and are currently sleeping on them. They’re pretty nice. Not as smooth as a higher thread count, but comfortable. I suspect they’ll soften up more with use.
Target’s Threshold sheets are the best low priced sheets on earth! They are sold in sets or separate. The fitted sheets fit up to 20 inches deep, very soft, 100% cotton and a double elastic so that it NEVER comes off from sleeping. I have a queen bed that has a memory foam topper, and getting reasonably priced deep fitted sheets is a challenge. I buy a king flat sheet in Threshold because of the extra thickness of the mattress and topper. I highly recommend the Threshold sheets.
These sheets get 4.3 to 4.6 reviews. One wrote: “Didn’t use fabric softener. These sheets are so soft ! They have full elastic and stay on the bed nicely. I was worried that because they were brushed that they might be too warm for southern nights, but that isn’t the case. Again, I can’t believe how soft they are.”
