These headphones are a horrible product - not for you though, but for Sony.
The sound quality is quite good (especially for the price), and as long as you take care of them, they’re practically unbreakable.
I have a pair of these (or at least, a precursor that looks identical) sitting on my desk, and outside of having to replace the earcups a couple times, they’ve lasted damn-near 20 years.
Possibly one of the best measuring headphones available. No, I’m not kidding. Yes, I own some of these and as was previously mentioned, they’ll last forever if taken care of (but replacing the ear pads, when needed).
I have the sister product, the MDR-V6 headphones. Have had them since the mid 90’s. Replaced the earcups twice before I realized you can get earcups from beyerdynamic that don’t wear out as fast and are more comfortable. The only other minor issue is I thought the cord had a short but it turned out the plug just needed to be cleaned. A little deoxit and it is good as new.
I’ve had pair of the consumer V6 models more than 30 years. They’re fantastic. Eventually the ear pads will need replacing and the headband will start flaking off.
Mine also has the cord start to degrade (it got that plastic sticky coating that just gets worse).
I bought a panel headphone jack and installed it with a soldering iron and a dremel. Now I’ve got the same great headphones with a removable cord.

Looks like these have been reveiwed, over 21000 times!
These are fantastic monitor headphones. They are a benchmark in the industry.
Be warned, if your tracks are poorly ripped, you’ll know it. You can’t hide anything from these headphones.
I have had 3 sets of these over the last 30+ years. sound is excellent. I used touse them for my tv through the receiver but now just my computer where i watch most of my videos and shows. Yes the ear cup pads need to be replaced after heavy use but there is plenty of replacements available. my only problem has been i leave them plugged into my computer jack and after a few years the angle of the way it hangs has caused the cord to degrade causing bad spots that i had to rotate after awhile finally just replacing them. I have tried some others nut for the price these to me are the best.
$6.42 cheaper here than the mothership after taxes. Either way a good price for quality headphones
Yeah, but these are stalwart industry standards for studio monitor cans. They never go on sale because they don’t have to. Kind of like the Sennheiser HD280Pro for club DJ use. They are almost always $99 wherever you go. People gladly pay it.
FYI these are not going to add bass to your iTunes library or anything like that. These are flaaaaaat. Intentionally. You hear the sound on the track, that’s it. If you can make something that sounds balanced through these, it will sound good pmuch anywhere.
Thinking to myself “how do I mansplain yet another set of headphones?”
These are great monitor headphones. I’ve had the same pair since 1993 or so. I’ve replaced the ear pads once in that time. I’ve used them for monitoring live sound and recording.
There were a few consecutive years where the mothership marked them down to this level on Black Friday, but that was it for deals when I was watching.
I also have the MDR-V6 set, and can confirm. My all-time favorite headphones.
The difference, if any, between the MDR-V6 and MDR7506 has been debated for years. Some people think Sony is simply targeting two different markets using the same headphones. Others insist that there is a audible difference between the two.
Edit: I now see that Sony discontinued the MDR-V6 headphones a few years ago. So if you’re looking to buy new, any difference may be a moot point.
It’s only 5 dollars more on Amazon.
I thought I had bad parts on my cord that I had to rotate to get to work but it turned out it was corrosion on the plug. A little cleaning and some deoxit and they were good as new.
I got one of these from Woot recently.
It does not have adequate cables in the box for immediate use. I had to buy a cable as a go-between from the 3.5mm jack to the RCA red/white connection.
I’m not a fan of deferred gratification (use). Sad that Sony does not include this cable in the box. It’s far more cost effective and efficient for them to include than the $ they save by not including it.
The printed instructions in the box identify the cable s as one of the two ways to connect and state it’s not included.
I wish the digital (point of sale) info would identify this upfront.
No offense, but it sounds like Sony came out alright.
