Sterno Home 100ft Clear Globe String Light

Sterno Home 100ft Clear Globe String Light

6 inch lead? Really?? The bulbs truly begin six INCHES from the plug? This seems suspect. Is it possibly a six FOOT lead?

Keep in mind these are old-fashioned incandescent bulbs, not LEDs. The string will draw 500 watts, and the bulbs will eventually (or sooner) burn out.

See the illustration in the the linked manual. It really is six inches.

Seems like the best option for replacement bulbs might be to buy two strings.

You can easily find G40 bulbs on the mothership. I bought a set like this years ago and used G40 LED bulbs as replacements which are a lot brighter than I wanted. It would make sense to buy a 2nd strand of these lights if the replacement bulbs cost more than the going price of $19.99 here

We pulled the info directly from the Sterno site.

They state that for the 100ft strand, the lead wire is 6 inches, and each bulb is then every 12 inches. There are 99 bulbs on the string and 1 extra included in the box.

TT, Do you or any of y’all know if these would be good to use indoors, as well?
ie - to use in a bedroom at night? Just one set…? Or is it gonna be WAYYYY too overpowering? Lol
I want to find LED lights to go in mine and my kids’ bedrooms, BUT seems like all the ones I find on the “mothership” seem highly cheap and sus. :unamused:

Plus, the mothership has WAY too many of the same, dang choices, only labeled differently, or from different sellers, and I can’t find what I’m looking for at. all.

I just want good quality, calming, indoor ones, that 1. Aren’t going to cost me a fortune; 2. Can be dimmed to nightlight brightness for young kids; and 3. That are aesthetically pleasing (for my bedroom).

And no, I don’t care if they change colors at all. I’m not even sure I like when they change to all those gaudy colors. I’ve been looking for months. :weary:
Just want good quality, long lasting ones that are aesthetically pleasing, and can be nightlight quality for kids. thanks, all! :kissing_heart: :hugs:

It says the bulbs are dimmable but it doesn’t say the string itself has a dimmer so you might want to buy one separately. Otherwise, I would think they would be too bright to use at night, though I can’t say for certain. I don’t see that the bulbs are LED, either, though I might have missed it. I had a string of regular non-LED lights (I think they were G40 glass bulbs) up on my patio outside and the bulbs burned out repeatedly. I ended up switching to a commercial-grade outdoor set with LED lights… and they still burn out, though nowhere near as often. The G40 bulbs would probably do better indoors.

These are the ones I bought but they are VERY VERY bright and you would definitely have to buy a dimmer, though I’m not sure how dim those go so I don’t know if it would be enough to use in a bedroom at night. Without a dimmer, those lights are like daylight. I will say the company honors their warranty and will replace dead bulbs without any trouble.

(Please note: I don’t work for Woot, I just volunteer to help out here on the forums.)

I went searching for a “led light curtain” (a “trunk” to run along the curtain rod, with branches dropping down every six inches or so) and arranged them behind a relatively thin white curtain set, printed with waterfalls of flowering vines). The lights have a controller for various effects, but mostly I leave them on steady and control with a smart switch I call “Fairy Lights”. Very laid-back, not glaringly bright. There are several types out there now. Not to recommend the competition, but I found Lots of choices on hand at a Big place.

Not many light strings can fill (and wrap around both ends of, without being glaring) the 60+ ft overhead out by the pool.

These will probably get hot. You want to use LED lights indoors or strands specifically rated for indoor use. I’ve been buying strands to light my back door for years now and the leds are the best because they don’t get hot. A smaller strand won’t be as bright as a long stand since there are less to light up.

Excellent point. LED just rules all, especially since they don’t get hot.

I bought two.

If you’ve ever bought these types of lights retail, the cheap ones last a couple of years (seasons in the North) and then maybe 1/5 of the bulbs give out during winter. For the price and the 100ft length these are a no brainer.

I’ve had my issues with Woot in the past, but these were ordered Sunday, shipped Monday, and delivered Tuesday.

Can’t do better than that. Very much deserving of 5/7 stars, perfect rating. Will buy again.

I ordered 2 sets for holiday lights

Are you going to put them indoors on say, the Christmas tree, or mantle with garland snd dim them somehow? (I’m not good with all the “electrical” things. :frowning_with_open_mouth:). What are the “dimmers” you buy for stuff like this?
I’ve looked at idk how many “fairy lights” and clear string lights, but they all have reviews that say they don’t last long, quit working, etc.

Thank you for thinking I actually had a plan for them other than “holiday.” LOL

I think I will possibly, maybe, twist them with some evergreen and loop one set on each of my decks

My house is set up in the front like:

Deck Solarium Deck

the Solarium is all glass, so now that you asked and got me thinking about it - I think evergreen and lights on each Deck and Christmas tree in the middle of the solarium window

Look at that, I actually have a plan for something I purchased from Woot!!

Thank you for asking

If your buying Touch of Junk… I mean Echo… Yes… Replace every season… This brand is the worst… And Woot sells so many… Stay way.

I’m surprised nobody has asked yet - when one bulb dies, does the whole string go out?
Maybe it’s obvious, maybe not. I’ve used incandescent Xmas tree lights for many years.

I found this review on Walmart.com - same lights - that says they believe they will still light up if one it removed or burns out

To all

These do not come with a dimmer, but are compatible with any incandescent dimmer. I just ordered 2 of these dimmer/remote sets bc they came out to $12.71 each with their current price, a $2 off coupon and another 8% off (you have to order separately if you want more than 1 to get the discount). Reviews are mixed, but I figure I will give it a try for the price.
