I have now tried on 6 occasions to get support from customers service about being charged the wrong sales tax.
Here is the last post with details:
CS mgr contacted me after that thread saying it would be resolved with the finance/accounting leader who was on vacation.
That was 7 May and I was promised a response by 13 May. I received literally no response and followed up again on 18 May and received no response at all.
I have sent another email letting them know this is easily resolvable but at this point it will be referred to our city attorney if not addressed by Friday.
Again, this is infuriating. I have been a Wooter since 2008 with well over 100 woots… I do not understand the lackadaisical approach to something as straight forward as tax.
I hope someone can impart encouragement to resolve this easily.
Yeah… Soooo straightforward knowing every state’s (and municipal?) different sales tax laws and how it applies to every specific product listed and shipped by every supplier on woot. Crosscheck that by every customer’s shipping address… (or is that billing address?)
Maybe you should shop local if this is a large concern.
Literally every other online retailer, including Amazon, gets it right because services exist for exactly this purpose offered by both states and payment processors.
Rate charged was 8.875% Correct rate is 6.375%. So overcharge of 2.5% (and this also would mean the taxes are also going to the incorrect city, the one that has the higher rate). It’s small enough that it’s not obviously wrong as you eagerly click through checkout excited for your woot (checkout displays tax as a $ value, not a %, I mean who normally pulls out a calculator to double check a business is charging the correct tax?). So, when I finally caught it, I realized it had been going on for some time.
Received a pretty generic reply from a different untitled CS person this morning, not the manager who had last communicated:
“We are very sorry for the delay! I see that our team currently working to get this issue resolved. I have passed this information on to them, and you should be hearing back from them very soon.”
Glad to have a response… I certainly hope it is true this time… I’ll stand by until Friday.
I live in a “city”/zip code that straddles two counties, and even in my county there are different jurisdictions with different additional rates within my zip code. Never had a problem with online orders from any vendor. I can save 1% off tax rate by buying online and collecting from Walmart which is just up the road, rather than going in.
Just kidding. I understand this completely. Every penny dollar counts & it does add up. I’m sure they will fix the issue for everyone going forward thanks to you! & you’ll get your money back.
I once purchased some clothing off eBay & my state does not charge sales tax on clothes so I messaged the seller & they adjusted the final checkout for me minus the tax. I ended up buying multiple colors. We were both happy.
