SuperHandy Adult Tricycle Electric Bike

A nice idea, and I considered trying to get one for my elderly mother. Not this one - one with a 14AH battery instead of a couple of dinky little cordless drill batteries, better brakes, substantially better motor, better… Anyway, not this one. But then I watched some review videos of it. It had a maximum speed of 20 MPH (whilst being ridden by someone’s ten pound dog, maybe). The reviewer dogs manage to get it up to 18 MPH. But then he encountered a long but very mild hill - and was moving at 3 MPH before he finished. It was completely unable to climb a short steep hill. Those were on paved roads, by the way. On a loose surface, especially with a front hub motor… The phrase “sit and spin” takes on new meaning. And then the reviewer showed how, even turning at a slow speed, it was very helpful to come off the seat on the opposite side from the turn, to apps greatly in not tipping the trike over.

Mom is a lot weaker than she used to be and could not do that. She couldn’t contribute in any meaningful way via pedaling input And she absolutely would not be able to push it home from the grocery store when the combined 4AH wasn’t enough to power her back home (or up that short hill at the exit of the grocery store parking lot, come to think of it), too say nothing of extricating herself from underneath it - possibly while injured - if it tipped over.

This item… IDK. Anyone thinking about buying it for a parent should consider that parent’s physical abilities, the expected rising environment (maybe they live in a completely level retirement community with a 5 MPH speed limit and very gradual corners), how the person will get it in/out of their house, et cetera. Because it would be a great disappointment to receive a gift of this type and realize they weren’t able to use it (and learning this the hard way would be a tragedy).
