TOSHIBA 14000BTU Portable AC (Up to 550sqft)

So, I ordered one of these back in June, and this thing has been amazing! My heat pump package unit died in May, leaving me without AC for the summer, so I used a Hisense that I picked up from Wood last year (and now my niece is using since school started) and an LG window unit that I got from a big box store. This one has been keeping my bedroom cool all summer long, and because of the inverter compressor, it is very quiet compared to the Hisense I have, but way more powerful. The LG is also an inverter, which turned me onto the technology and why I bought this thing in June, and is why the package unit I ordered for the whole house utilizes the same tech. Tonight was the first time that I really got to test out the heat pump mode, in anticipation of the cooler weather that’s coming to the Mid Atlantic. The test was a resounding success. The unit took about 3 minutes once it kicked on before it started blowing warm, then hot air, and the built in condensation pump worked swimmingly! Even when the new whole house package unit arrives and I install it, this thing will continue to be used in my bedroom during the warm months because I like my room cold when I sleep, and this will allow me to keep it cold without cooling the entire house. The whole reason I got that Hisense last spring: these things can also be run off of my generator

There were some lemons based on previous threads, including something I had to fix, but this thing is freakin’ amazing!

Is there any information on the window kit that comes with the larger unit?

What are you wanting to know?

Does hose-in-hose mean that this is essentially a dual-hose unit, so it does not pull outside air into the home through another opening because of air pressure but instead cools the compressor via outside air pulled into the unit and then vents it back outside?

Yes, it’s a dual hose unit, with everything in the one hose, so no negative pressure pulling air from your door cracks or other places. The window attachment has a diverter that helps separates the fresh air and exhaust airflow. The plus side is it looks a lot better than a traditional dual hose setup. The downside is it really kinda has to be in front of the window because the hose-in-hose is a little stiff.

Is the refurbishment done nicely? this is an excellent deal by the way. These units were being sold at HomeDepot for 699. This has a variable speed compressor so the unit never really turns off rather the compressor goes to slow speed when the required temp is met. I just hope Woot is not selling any bad units within these refurbished units.

if you really want a brand new unit, check below. These are not not refurbished and are slightly less in btu 10k vs these 12k. Also the Danby unit does not have heat. Also note if you plan on using heat for longer period, you will need to connect the continuous drain pipe as these units to drain in heat and dehumidification modes. For cooling the draining is not required…That’s my understanding.

Would this work with a horizontal sliding window?

Yes, it has an adapter to change the orientation for both horizontal and vertical windows. For more info, you can check out the manual that’s on the product page.

Perfect! Thank you so much!

Seems to be hit or miss based on some of the previous threads. The one I got was in great shape, but the louver was detached from the motor that drives it, so I had to take it apart to put it back into its slot. For more info on that, check out the link to a previous thread in my first post…

This arrived defective. Frustrating for sure.
