What’s the best April fools prank you know of?

I was recently listening to a podcast where they tested out a strange theory that I had never heard: you can cover a potato in stamps and send it through the mail.

They tested 2 potatoes, 2 bananas, and and eggplant (which they wrapped in tape, just in case it was a prolonged/hot trip). They sent some of it out through the post office and some of it was just dropped into an outdoor blue collection box.

IT WORKED! Oddly enough, the produce mailed from the blue collection boxes arrived quicker than the others. Also, instead of writing the address on all of them, they etched the address into one potato and one banana-they still got delivered! Blew my mind!

Anyways, I was thinking about this all day and realized it would be a perfect April Fool’s joke on someone-to just send them a potato. They would be so dumbfounded, yet still try to explain it to others. :joy:

What are some of the best pranks you guys know of?

How about other pranks thru the mail

In the gift shop at the Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World they sell Coconuts that have post cards painted on them for this purpose. There is a sign explaining the postal regulation that allows you to ship them. I have often wanted to actually try it.

Nothing this dramatic, but I have taken drawers out of the desk and also stolen all of the pens back from the thief and returned them to their owners. Not to mention the gum in the water fountain spray technique of my youth.

So. I may have shared this…
You take a screencap of the person’s desktop(s). This is back when we all only had one monitor… how quaint.
Then, you take all their desktop icons and place them in a folder in their documents. This is so they can fix what you are about to do…
Then set their background image as the screenshot that you just took and hide their taskbar.

I had a co-worker nearly in tears over this.
I wasn’t there when it happened and the two guys that watched me do it, did not say a word.

The chair on the air horn is genius!

But, I believe your hidden-but not hidden- icon trick is next level! Did you ever fess up?

Yup. Right away.
I kinda felt bad. I should not have done this to someone that wasn’t very tech savvy.
…and easily worked up…
However… it was a couple hours before I got to him. He was about to call tech support.
It took him a few weeks before he started talking to me again.
He’s ok with me, now.
Unless he’s not…

Coworker would house set for the boss and do funny little things around the house as a joke.
I helped one year.
Told her to buy a cheap set of sheets and some iron-on printer paper.
We got images of the office ladies and printed them on to the pillow cases…
So when he went to bed and pulled back the covers, he would have a real treat.
He was a bit of a player, so he thought this was hilarious!
PS. all the ladies were old enough to be his grandma!

That’s the thing about pranks, depending on how evilyou they are and if you catch somebody on a bad day. You can do some damage. I go for fun and harmless.

In my youth a group of us pulled one I regret to this day. We put black construction paper over the headlights of a fairly naive non savvy co-worker. She left work in the dark and was so upset she had to pull over and call her dad to come help her. He was livid. He showed up the next day and threatened to crack heads if anyone messed with her again. The dad part was kind of funny because he was small and older and not intimidating. But I felt awful that the coworker was scared and upset. Totally changed my pranking ways!

Right. I had to explain this to a coworker. She was originally from Japan and for some reason, my American cynicism was completely “foreign” to her. She would read articles from MSN or the like about what it meant to be an American office worker… then I would need to translate to REAL life.

She wanted to pull a prank… I had to explain to her that the person in which you are pranking needs to be able to take a prank and overly-escalate. We had a co-worker that was the stereotypically baby-huey/homeschooled guy. He was not great at the interpersonal, but his momma told him that every idea he ever had was right and brilliant.

I told her to not prank him. Yours might be innocent, but you are setting him up to escalate and do something that he thinks is funny and harmless, but could actually be criminal… He would key your car, or hide your keys and leave for vacation… not really funny, just kinda shitty. One guy swapped a few keys on his keyboard and he almost had a melt-down.

After a while she stopped reading all these online articles and would ask me to give her the “ben-spin” on things that she didn’t understand.

For people that never go out in the sun, Silver Nitrate in the shampoo.
Lots of fun when they finally do go in the sun.
