Not to get political, but will my social security be there for me when I do? I got off to a late start saving for retirement. I have a government pension that I pay into, a Roth Thrift Savings Plan, and some random Roth IRAs that I fiddle around with for fun, but don’t actively contribute to . I hope I can afford to retire one day, but with the direction things have been going, it’s not looking good.

Not sure I’ve never really thought about it. I’ve only worked a few months and that was a few years ago in another country. I’m almost 40 now and unable to work. That might change but I also never finished my higher education.

It does only have x time left, and that time has never been extended, it’s only been shortened every year or two as we get closer to the cutoff. You keep hearing about it because we’re getting closer to it every year.
