i really really like this woot. except i would have gotten it but i wasted my money at the portable dvd player woot from a few woots ago or so. i wish i would of waited. 
Don’t wanna burst the nice thought but sirius did just give howard stern $500 million for 5 years, so I wouldn’t expect free satelite radio anytime within 10-15 years, and definately not within the next 5.
After all, cable tv never became free, it just got bigger and better and slowly took over the market.

i know what it is and i’ve participated in one before but how does it start?
does it start for friday’s woot? or does it start after friday’s woot sells out? or does it start on saturday? or does it happen DURING friday’s woot?

You’ll have enjoyed six months of jazz, classical, round the clock elvis, reggae, hip hop, cnn, fox news, bbc, left, right and middle political talk, spanish language, religious, trucker’s channel, mystery shows, etc., you get your complete deduction, you make the charity people happy because they’re gonna buy the subscription, and you’ll feel so quadruply good, you’ll get the radio the next time Woot offers it again so you can repeat the experience! Think of the good you could do for humanity, your Sirius radio belting out Perry Como’s “White Christmas”, the bell ringing sounds for accompaniment, thieves and drug dealers turning their hearts to good under the spell of YOUR donated radio’s music, little kids on crutches holding small boomboxes up to their ears tuned to YOUR donated FM transmitter, you’d probably get a gold star in heaven! Wow, I could tell my grandkids someday I talked to St. Woody!

If satellite radio is free in three years, you won’t want it…it’ll have more commercials than music. Wait, that sounds familiar…kind of like FM radio. Oh, except FM radio also has DJs that talk endlessly, consuming even more of the time when they should be playing music.
That’s what this really comes down to: Is it worth $13 a month to actually hear music every single time you turn on the radio? On every station? No commercials ever?* That’s what you’re paying for. If you don’t mind listening to commercials and annoying DJs instead of music, there’s no reason to buy this package.

Howard Stern is going to Sirius. Thats a pretty good reason to buy this woot. I’m sure he’s gonna be a nut on satellite.

No, he’s not a DJ…he’s a talk show host. It’s not like you’re forced to listen to him while you’re wishing you were hearing music. Almost half of the stations on Sirius are talk/news/sports radio, and if you’re into that stuff there’s a lot to choose from. Personally, I much prefer music.

I can say beyond a doubt that XM blows Sirius out of the water. Someone here said Sirius has two orbiting sattelites and one geosyncronous. This is not true. All three orbit in a pattern that 2 sattelites are always above the horizon and visible provided you have no obstructions. The only problem with this type of setup is that if you are in a bad location, the moving sattelites means you will lose signal on a regular basis as the sattelite moves. XM has two geosyncronous sattelites. This means if you are in a bad location, there is usually someplace you can set your antenna and never have to readjust since the sattelites dont move. Far more convenient than Sirius. Also the sound quality of Sirius pales in comparison to XM. I rented a car in the Seattle area and had an opportunity to try Sirius out for the weekend. Sirius sounds like a poorly encded MP3 with more artifacts than this audiphile can stand. I also experienced several signal drop outs when there were no obvious obstructions(I suspect due to the shifting sattelite orbit pattern or it does poorly near the edges of the country). XM has few signal issues and even will take you well into the more populous areas of Canada as well as into Mexico.
I don’t have to listen to djs either I just push the scan button on my car radio and"poof" they’re gone!
Before you fire off, I’m just jerking your chain a little. I have XM in my car and at home. I bought it so I could catch all of the Cubs games and Fox News was nice but I find myself checking out more of the channels now. On June 6th the 40’s channel rebroadcast news reports of the D-day invasion at the same time of day they were originally broadcast. It was a real glimpse of history.
