Adaptec GameBridge TV USB2 Video Capture/TV Tuner

Lies. Composite is “Yellow Red White.” I want component .

I looked into one of the reviews, it said that it ripped video to

Video:
Size: 720x480
Frame Rate: 29.97 frames/sec
Bit Rate: 6000 KBits/sec

at highest quality. 480? Can I play Halo 2 at it’s highest detail over S-Video? I’ve always wondered if component wasnt completely necessary for the highest resolution that the PS2 XBOX and GC could crank out…
if so, sign me up! HD be damned!

Technical review at Tom’s Advertising. Limited quality review, but they pop the lid and look at the chips. The silicon tuner inside is the new hotness, but there are no Linux drivers for it. Windows or bust!

There’re also some user user reviews at PriceGrabber.

why whats wrong with it TV tuner wise??

Exactly. By the time people discover this was a better deal, this deal will be long gone.

Woooo! I could play my xbox 360 on my 19 inch monitor instead of the 56 inch HD TV, sign me up please.

The Xbox review looked pretty good…and its a pretty dang cheap TV Tuner. I will just keep this in my laptop bag.

I wooted

I got it for about the same price on Fry’s a while ago. Here is my personal experience.

Picture quality: Standard/Good
Audio quality: Horrible
Product support: Virtually none

I had another USB TV Tuner, but the picture latency is very high, I cannot play real-time console games through it. Yes, at the beginning I did notice that the Game Bridge’s latency is indeed low, I can actually play fighting games on my console now, wow! But then I happen to try using the same software (Intervideo HomeTheater) supplied with Game Bridge opening my other USB TV tuner, and guess what, the latency went down to about the same as using GameBridge!

Anyway, after played fighting game on Game Bridge for a bit while, I switched to a game with light instrumental background music… and it sounded like nightmare! The tunes being captured are constantly shifting, sounds like a cassette walkman with depleted batteries… I think the problem roots in the audio ADC - it is set to work only at a single mode of 48kHz by the driver, not a more common 44.1kHz.

Then I tried to contact Adaptec for technical support. However, their stupid website does not allow me to write an email to ask a question without providing the product ID, AND, when I try to enter my product ID, it tells me my ID is invalid. It seems Adaptec did not get ready to support this product, even after a lot of end users have already bought it!

I have not tried the TV tunner yet, I hope it would not sound the same as for the games!

So here is my advice: If you do not have a tunner, and just want to buy it to play action games, it should work fine, and it is a good deal too! If you already have an USB tunner but you cannot play games on it dur to its latency, try software solution before buy this one.

My first woot. Thanks, woot.com!

BTW, outpost.com is currently selling this for 24.99 (14.99 for the 1400 which doesn’t come with the TV tuner).

You can find some reviews/impressions in this cheapassgamer messageboard thread (registration required I think):

$19 bucks for a portable tv, dvr, game console monitor, and just all around cool small device I w00ted i dont care if i own a powerbook!

Dude, this is an awesome woot. I thought that the past few werent all that great so i was a bit dissappointed. but this one i bought three! first time to buy 3 at once for me. But this would be great for xmas gifts. people would never suspect i spent so little. muahahaha

The Hewlett Packard (HP) version for that price is obviously the modified version. The HP version automatically logs and records all your telephone conversations and send the info back to the HP Research Department.

Hey scsa20,

The one you linked is the model WITHOUT the TV tuner. Major diference, thus the price reflecs so.

My first woot! WOOT WOOT! Hopefully I can get this thing to work as a decent TV tuner. If not I am sure that I will find some use for it.

uhh this pisses me off because i bought that stupid dazzle for twice as much with no remote

does anyone know if the gamebridges tv tuner is any good? and if its worthy to kick out the dazzle?

Buy two, It’s almost guaranteed to sell one for $40 so it’s practically cheap from a financial standpoint. Be prepared to wait a week till your goodies arrive, quite the norm from buying from woot! I really wish they had express shipping.

I’m confused as to why someone would ask when the post says why.

couple more reviews:

consensus seems to be that it works reasonably well considering what it’s designed to do.

this + 17" Widescreen Laptop LCD + Nintendo Wii / Xbox 360 =
hope there is no lag…
