I wouldn’t buy a laptop new with these specs, much less refurb, but I put stock in decent GPUs… this doesn’t have one. And as a refurb it won’t quality for a Win 7 upgrade.
What is the actual model number on this laptop. Is it the Asus U81A? When I google it I find the U81A-RX05, which has different specs. The refurbed U81A is less available and seems to go from the mid 600$ to 700$. As far as windows seven is concerned, It’s a crap shoot. Asus might have invalidated all the refurb. serial numbers.
I’ve been looking for a laptop for a while, and caved a couple days ago and got a New Gateway NV53 from best buy. Comes with nearly the same stats, a 15.6 inch screens, and an HDMI port to boot. 429 at BB.
Honestly, I was looking for a smaller laptop, I wanted a 14’. The advantage they carry is they get much better battery life if they have a 6-cell battery. The slightly bigger screen I got included a numberpad and keyboard though, so I call it fair.
HP Laptops are ever so pretty and come cheap. You get what you pay for.
When you have all your college homework and projects on your laptop, it is MAJOR crisis when it dies. My son-in-law and a lot of other engineering students at his school had HP laptops. Many of them failed. His died after 9 months. Sent it back for a complete rebuild. Died again after 10 months. Everybody hates HP laptops at that school.
Son-in-law did major research and found ASUS to be top-rated. Absolutely loves his new laptop. It came with face-recognition login that actually works. Is that cool or what.
My other daughter has an HP desktop that has been running perfectly for four years. I haven’t heard anything bad about their desktops.
Dell used to be a great company. I wouldn’t buy their pork now for a dime.

Got an HP G60 with a 16" screen and the same specs otherwise last May for $550 NEW with shipping and then got a $50 rebate a few weeks later, so this does not seem like a very good deal. Of course, mine was not eligible for the W7 upgrade, but still… refurb and 14"? Come on, Woot! You can do better than this.

14" is a pro, not a con. Most people want a fast portable laptop, and not carry around a 16" heavy desktop.
Anyways, who buys big screen, unportable and heavy laptops anymore??? Oh, you
They post the upgrade offer link and one of the customers reviews mentions the free Windows 7 upgrade. So yes, you can get a Windows 7 free upgrade. It looks like that promotion is good on laptops bought before Jan 31, 2010 so I wouldn’t waste time getting your upgrade.
And as long as we’re at it, here’s the CNet review.
Yes, but it’s an HP. One of my friends has the infamous HP laptop with the defective hinge, and when she found out HP had been quietly repairing them she tried to get hers fixed but found out that HP had stopped the program a few months earlier, leaving her SOL. She’ll never buy another HP and tells all of her clients (she’s a hairdresser) to avoid HP at all costs.
[QUOTE=euphoricmix, post:23, topic:265785] Comparable HP Laptop for $510 shipped and $460 after MIR.
