from what i know, it does qualify for the windows 7 upgrade.

Anyone know what the video card in this is?

Folks, if you’re going to spend $500 on anything, buy it NEW!

Asus laptops are incredible.

I love mine, and convinced two friends to buy Asus. Now they love 'em.

Got an HP G60 with a 16" screen and the same specs otherwise last May for $550 NEW with shipping and then got a $50 rebate a few weeks later, so this does not seem like a very good deal. Of course, mine was not eligible for the W7 upgrade, but still… refurb and 14"? Come on, Woot! You can do better than this.

What a previous poster said, it’s the GM45 Express Chipset.

Think of it as the Intel GMA4500HDM (the last M being mobile). Powerful enough to watch high-def videos, but not powerful enough to play most current-gen games smoothly.

How good is the keyboard placement on this particular model? I’m considering getting a Notebook or Laptop for writing purposes. The most common design flaw (in my opinion) is that these things can have cramped keys.

That’s an awesome photo on the screen!

Ausus driver support.

And FAQ.

I bought a similar Asus on Cyber Monday for 449. I believe it was This one

Mine came with Win 7 and is great! Doesn’t overheat, runs fast and the screen is great.

One note that I saw in the Newegg comments. Mine doesn’t support running XP mode due to hardware limitations (not just the version of Win 7 that I have)

If you need to run programs in XP mode, you might want to check that out before buying.

You can get a Dell vostro 1014 or inspiron 14 with barely inferior specs for the same price. Lots of 13.3 small and light laptops with Neos run similar prices. Newegg offers the same thing in a Toshiba flavor for $50 more (cost of squaretrade). Not a terrible deal, just not that great of one.

I gotta say, when it comes to laptops and screen size, bigger is not always better. I have a 15.5" right now and it’s bordering my upper limit. I’ll take a 15.5" over a 17" any day for the same price. My next laptop will probably be a 14".

I’m not saying this one is worth it, I’m just saying…

I have an Asus laptop and they are pretty durable. I bought accidental warranty coverage when I got it, which prompted me to care less about the laptop’s safety. I have left it in my car in below freezing temperatures and it still works great. It can push some hot air out the side vent but other than that it doesn’t overheat.
However, they do come with a lot of bloatware, and you have to be careful about what you uninstall so you don’t lose the touch-pad and web-cam stuff.
