Well, it figures that I would pull the trigger on one of these before they go on sale at w00t!
After reading about these in my latest Sound and Vision magazine (and looking for a reasonably priced speaker for my shower), I pulled the trigger last week at Amazon. You can see what Sound and Vision had to say about them here:
I think I am gonna pick up another EVEN though I haven’t received my initial order yet. I haven’t been let down by a S&V recommendation and doubt I will be now.
Picked one of these up at Amazon a while back. Its solid. Clear strong sound. Good distance. Adequate battery life. Decent when using it as a hands free device. A little echo but not bad and not why I bought it for. All about the music and podcasts. A deal and a half at $19 after shipping!
I bought one of these from when Woot was selling them for $20. I loved it. Never put it in near water however, couldn’t get myself to trust electronics and liquid in the same vacinity.
Today I turned it on but it didn’t give me that distinctive POP we all know and love. It connected automatically with my iPhone but the speaker wasn’t working any longer. Bad news. Now it’s just a rubbery black paperweight with a blue light.
Cute little speaker- easy pairing! Bought it to listen to audio books in the car - but unfortunately not really loud enough for that (guess my car is older and louder than the new ones- and having problems with attaching the speaker through its suction cup - it’s top heavy and doesn’t want to cooperate.)
Discovered listening to stuff in the shower instead just wonderful for that and plenty loud in the shower! Now it travels with me when doing chores around the house and it often replaces my bluetooth headphones.
When I first got it I used it for approximately 7 hours over a one week period and I really liked it. Then I let it sit unused until 3 days after its 90-day warranty expired and it would not ‘pair’ with any of my devices.
I bought one of these a month or so back and am disappointed. The volume is an improvement over plain old built-in speakers, but I wish it would go a bit higher. I want to be able to listen to NPR in the shower and I can’t hear it, even at the highest level. It also tends to go on the fritz and drop out, and for reasons I can only assume are demonic possession, keeps trying to pair itself to my Mac as “mono” instead of “stereo.”
I’d save the money and wait to get something better for another ten or twenty bucks. And this is coming from somebody who embodies “frugal.”
How do these compare to the Music Angel cube speakers? Music Angel speakers are tiny 2 1/2in cube speakers that have a remarkably high fidelity for their size.
I got my SoundPop and used it in the shower. I am impressed! I did not even turn it up farther than half-way, and that was almost still louder than I needed. I jammed in the shower! Surprisingly great sound fidelity. I had no trouble pairing, no trouble charging, no trouble with it sticking to my clean shower wall. I am not sure that the suction really IS enough though, and I do not want to damage this little gem, so I may end up putting it on the shower shelf just to be safe. This is NOT waterproof, so if you expect it to endure a steady stream or drip of water…don’t. The port where it charges has a poorly fitting flap of silicone. I would trust the water integrity of this beyond an occasional mist of water while the opening is turned away from the direction the water is coming. I really love this though, and for the $14.99 price that WOOT offered, it is worth every penny.
