I purchased one of these and the tool is fine, but the battery was defective (flashing red light on the charger). It also looks like it’s not an OEM battery. The charger looks like all of my other B+D chargers, but the battery doesn’t look like my other batteries. All of the markings are different and there’s no mention of B+D anywhere.
It worked out for me because I already have batteries, the tiller works, and Woot! refunded my purchase because the battery was bad. So no complaints in the end, but wanted others to know about the sketchy battery.
Cheers!
What a scam! Clearly not a new product as advertised. Box had tons of tape all over it where it had been resealed and one spot (where the battery was located) had been cut open. The original Black and Decker battery has been replaced with some Chinese knockoff.
First pick is of a REAL b&d battery. 2nd is the knock off. Third pick is of the cut on the box that was likely used to take out the original battery.
Just tested it out cause I was a little concerned by some of the reviews. Good news is it works decently well. Wish the tines were a little longer but it’ll do. The bad news is the knock off battery is garbage and probably unusable. I could tell right off it didn’t have the same power by the sound and speed of the oscillating blades. When tested on grassy soil, it really struggled. Genuine battery (6 years old btw) had no trouble whatsoever. I’m guessing a lot of the bad reviews on this product are not a result of the tiller but from the trash batteries that were subbed in.
