Had no idea he said that until I DuckDuckGo’d it. I’m old… It was a saying back in my day
One time I was walking along drunk with 3 other guys, we were loud and belligerent and on the street. A cop came up grabbed the black one of the bunch and pushed him against a wall and asked for id while all of us were told to stay back. We were being loud and drunk and public. Didn’t make the news, didn’t get recorded 11 years ago and let us all of with a warning we were all shocked and apologetic and he acted like it was nothing. I’ve grown up in black neighborhoods all my black friends had to be taught how to act around cops and not make sudden moves. I’ve also taught in black schools and black programs for underrepresented kids. The difference in lifestyle and opportunity is astounding. Just cause some people you know made it out doesn’t mean they don’t have these experiences that they think nothing of and you would hear and be shocked by.
And just because some people you know had these experiences doesn’t mean that it is the average experience by all.
A friend of mine and I were in a high end jewelry store… both of us white and both of us well within means to purchase anything in that store. Both of use were followed the whole time we where in there by security.
If you think that only black people are ever harassed, then you are delusional.
I think 2 if not 3 should be found innocent. The Hmong guy appears to be a douche but he wasn’t involved. The blak guy and the older white guy were rookies with days on the force. the older white guy also recommended his training officer to stop kneeling on Floyd’s neck but was shut down by his training officer who had a personal history with Floyd that no one else knew about, and as far as racism that older white rookie had been a volunteert to help teach Somali kids. Not exactly the k kk the media painted
In my neighborhood it didn’t matter black or white you’d get hassled
No ones saying white people dont have it rough sometimes, but you are negating you realizes the effect of 200 years of deliberate oppression. You are acting like the black community has had all these opportunities for such a long time. It’s barely been what 30 years of some opportunity. My dad grew up in at the end of the jim crow era. It’s not that far removed. There’s no reason for the public school two miles over to look like a private school where I worked at. It’s super easy to say marginalized crowds have it hard no matter their color, it’s difficult to accept the effects that a loss of 17 trillion in 150 years of inflation worth may have on a communities advancement
And no but if you can honestly tell me if a black guy walked in the same high end jewelry store as you guys and the owners attention wouldn’t turn to him then I think you are massively lying to yourself.
And if you can tell me that his attention would have turned to him then you are a psychic. I don’t deal in hypotheticals. I deal in facts. And as a matter of fact… there were black and white folks in that store at the time, so your theory is bunk.
That’s not police or government, so your argument is jewelers are racist?
I’m assuming there was a reason you think security was following you the same parameters would have to exist. I’ve been in situations where I see security bee line to a black customer walking in. It’s not a farcry. And statistics show in many facets it’s true across the board. The one African American named individuals and call backs for jobs at 68% lower with the same or better credentials done in the last 15 years is pretty
Im not sure I was ever a part of the all police are racist hyperbole but good try haha. Racism exists and implicit biases are proven in a ton of different way on the inter web journals
Think? I don’t think he was… I know damned well he was. Would you ask the black guy why he thought security was following him or is that just a forgone conclusion?
You mean like the job listings where black individuals need only apply?
Yep… Some white people hate black people and some black people hate white people. You know how you stop that? By not making every thing about race. Believe it or not, white people are getting damned tired of being told how racist they are every day just because they are white. And you know what that does? That makes people who never cared about race before… wait for it… racist. But y’all keep pushing that Race Card ™ … You might not like the end result.
That would be nice and I think we are on the way there, but I also don’t think most white people think they are being called racist everyday. I think that is a percent of a percent of people that feel that’s what is happening at the current moment.
And I’m asking because the way you phrased the story, saying you were well within your means to buy something means you felt out of place for some reason, be it your clothes or your look or some other social moray
Good try? I’m trying to make sense of your posts. The jewelers part intimates what? Jewelers are racist?
No it’d be historically security would trail African American customers over white customers at a higher rate (studies have shown)
A source might help
I’m not writing a thesis paper in MLA format they are out there, google it. The more easily accessible data that shows the same point is that black people get pulled over for routine traffic stops at an much higher rate
Is there a list of robberies by race that might account for that, or do businesses expend money for no reason?
Again snark is cool, but you can keep pushing that rhetoric all the way back to slavery if you want
