We broke the internet (or at least Woots little corner of the internet) with the last thread, Let’s see if we can’t do the same here!
Would you elaborate on your premise. What about politics is broken? What does ‘fixed’ look like?
Oh Lord… now, you’ve done gone and done it. Alright… I’m at work right now, but I WILL get back to you tonight to elaborate. I had to start an new Politics thread because the old one got too big…
In retrospect I would prefer you don’t and I will tap out of the discussion before it starts.
I was going to be nice…
All systems become corrupted over time.
As soon as the leeches, snake oil salesmen and predators understand the game, they develop industries around this manipulation.
They are like the invasive species that take over until everything is dead. These are not just industries, but also lobbyist that claim to be a voice for change, but knowing that if they are TOO EFFECTIVE, they will lose their livelihood, so you treat the symptoms and not the disease.
There is no diversity of thought of action in DC, they are all there and more come daily for the soul purpose of power acquisition. Those that do not seek this are either pawns, or short lived.
Local government often has far higher turn over rates or more contented citizens. Any issue that stays an issue for long in a small system is not truly an issue…
Don’t worry someone will disagree because they are out there wearing masks and schilling for teachers unions.
What about if you have a Dollar Tree and a Dollar General less than a mile apart? Same goes for Harbor Freight and Tractor Supply.
I don’t have that but I have a dollar tree about three blocks from a dollar tree, lol.
Definitely not a small town either.
Mine actually is a small town but we have a disproportionate number of stores and such. Mainly because the next small town that is closer to Albuquerque won’t let a bunch of places come in. Kinda nice in a way but it would be better with more fast food choices. Also, the 25 years and still waiting, Home Depot would be nice to keep the local lumber store’s prices in check.
Yeah, I can see the desire to protect the local businesses but sometimes they go kinda nuts. We had a local true value hardware. Great little store, amazing service, but oh boy did you pay for it.
We’ve had the opposite type of local stores and they have gone under; places that won’t let you browse on your own. Sad, but if the management encourages that kind of employee, or won’t reign them in, that’s what happens. Also the other town is full of hypocrites that are supposedly so concerned with the water supply but they let a golf course with homes project be developed. I have a Wal-Mart Super Center that is rarely ever busy maybe three miles from my house because of them.
Our problem is more politicians that take kick backs from developers to allow building new houses on golf courses. They get caught, go to jail, then the next batch of them do the same thing.
Look into Edgewood NM Mayor Bassett and the insanity. We now have a figurehead Mayor elected out of a group of elected district commissioners; I can’t remember what that is called. We still have the favoritism crap where an official will get a road paved to their house fast tracked. The tax rates are insane being in Santa Fe county but that means 70% of it goes to the capitol instead of staying here where it would do the most good.
Wait… yours go to jail when they’re caught?!
Nepotism, nice.
Huge chunk of our taxes goes to the school system. The brilliant district that brought you Parkland.
