The following video shows how to open the Latitude 5400 to upgrade— y’know what, I’ve posted that video so many times you all should’ve committed it to memory by now.
Once more? I promise to bookmark it!
So, this is a nice little laptop. I bought one a couple weeks ago from Woot, but the keys were not very sensitive, I had to mash them pretty hard to make them work. Just got the replacement a few days ago and have started letting my daughter use it. Mainly she wants something to hook her pen drawing tablet up to so will usually be able to plug in.
Anyone have thoughts on battery life? She gets maybe an hour playing Roblox games. I am going to do more testing, but old reviews listed battery life of this one as a PRO. I do see that there is three options that were shipped with this model number so not sure which this is. (68wH, 51wH or 42wH) Not sure if you can replace the battery with a larger one or if that is specific to sub-model.
The battery is removable. So you could probably replace it with a new one/larger capacity battery.
Yah, on the keyboard they offered a partial rebate but it looked like you had to remove most of the guts to get at it but all the videos start with removing the battery, I am not worried about replacing that just don’t want to pay for a battery on something I just bought.
I use one of these daily for work and it’s a great machine. Going on its 3rd year and can still get a good run on the battery. It stays plugged in during the day but I do a good deal of mobile work while my kids are doing their extracurriculars…
If I needed a machine I’d snatch this up. With that said, I’d go into this planning to replace the battery if I want full runtime… Because while mine had been cycled and held up, I’m guessing it’s the exception…
These are the workhorse Dell business laptops we issue at a large government agency. Solid computers, decent performance, and hardware failures are uncommon. For $300 you’d be getting a good basic Windows laptop, though that 256GB SSD is barely adequate.
I bought one this summer. Got the windows 11 on it. Very capable machine. I think these came from Wells Fargo, at least the batch that mine came from. Wasn’t a scratch on it. It was essentially brand new. Upgraded the RAM to 32 gigs. Unbelievably good deal on this. It’s pretty damn quick.
I don’t think you’ll find anything comparable to this for the money. These are corporate machines with a 4-year life cycle. Very happy with this purchase.
Battery is easily replaceable with a larger set of cells. Also room for an SSD.
