They keep adding bells and whistles to these bad design single hose ACs. Dual hose inverter with self evaporation is the only way to go.

That is absolutely right, inverters are the way to go.

Just looked into what the other comments were saying. I wish I knew that when I bought mine. They are absolutely true. Go with a dual hose.

More efficient and better cooling.

Single hose should be banned! At least do not say the dehumidify.

I’m assuming that all the comments about this being crap because it is single- and not double-hose self-evaporating inverting implies that there would be a cost trade-off in exchange for the convenience of not having to drain an evap tray as you must with this thing?

My view is that I bought a similar Delonghi – except with heat – a few years ago to use in my garage (I rent), but then ended up using it in the house when I was too lazy to kludge the exhaust into the roof vent. It’s slightly louder than a window unit since the noise-making parts are inside, and you’d think that it would generate waste heat that would significantly impact its efficiency – and maybe it does – but all I know is that it cools half my main floor far quicker than two window units for less $$ per BTU, so I’m generally happy.

I still cry for the memory of central air.

How many BTUs?

You can help mitigate the inefficient very hot single hose by adding the delonghi insulated hose cover for around $50. The imitation ones for less $ get poor reviews. I tried the single hose ACs and they good for an area where you can’t use a window unit but they’re nowhere near as effective or efficient. And you still need a window for the exhaust hose. I replaced my window units with inverter units and it’s a huge difference in energy use and noise. On Eco mode it’s hard to tell if it’s running.

Just remember; it may be single-hose and inefficient, but the price reflects that. It still works.

I remember when these (similar) units were $6-800.

Everything adapts, improves, and becomes more expensive. Then, people like me come along and buy the older stuff cheap, because we don’t need the latest and greatest.

Everything is relative.

I’m going to jump into the fray here as I purchased a refurbished one w/o heat about a month ago after central air went out and needing time to get quotes for new unit. I’ve been pleased with the purchase. I have four all together and I replaced a window unit I bought last year for a room that just did not get cool with a/c. The window unit is 6,000 btu and would not cool a 12x14 room with standard ceilings and the humidity was awful. It cost more than this unit. In agreement with the person who said to get a hose cover. Now that the a/c is on, I run these units in whatever room and I can keep the central a/c higher and that works well, fwiw.

With one hose where does the makeup air come from? It gets sucked into the house from outside into other rooms! You cool one room and suck hot moist air into every other room. It’s a terrible design that I am shocked it’s still sold.
We bought a fancy made in Japan unit years ago, same stupid design. Now it sits idle in the basement in a huge box.
Our UPS guy has a couple of these single hose. I tried to explain makeup air, eventually I said open a window in the room you use least… Then he blinked at me and did a hmmm…

Is anyone familiar with the KMS LLC, the warranty company listed for this item? The reviews online are bad and after reading the warranty its really only a 30 day warranty. After 30 days you have to PAY to send the unit to them for repair or replacement. Will Woot help with a warranty issue? I would appreciate any experience with the company or Woot and warranties. Thanks

I’ve had one of these that I bought here on woot about 10 years ago. I love it, it is noisy but I need background noise to sleep so that obviously helps me. I use it for every season. I rarely use the heat option because I like a cold room. I’ve moved this thing many times and It just keeps plugging away. I’m thinking about buying a second one just for my downstairs.

The self-evaporating feature is not exclusive to double-hose inverter units. This Delonghi actually is self-evaporating according to the ‘Features’. I have a cheap single-hose Chinese unit I bought on Amazon two years ago, and it’s self-evaporating.

So the benefit for the dual-hose inverter units is efficiency, and as you say, there’s a cost trade off, and I don’t see the dual-hose units getting such great reviews on Amazon anyway.

You used to be able to get an extended warranty from Amazon for $30-$45. But now they’re showing a ‘cooling warranty’ which costs like twice as much. However, Woot still links to the old ‘Electronics’ warranty. I wonder if Asurion would honor that warranty for an a/c bought on Woot.

I bought one last year and I’m not that thrilled with it. I actually prefer the Chinese cheapo I bought new two years ago. Funny, but for me, the thing that worked the best on the Delonghi was the couple of times I used the heat.

I had a DeLonghi single hose unit I got at Sam’s Club some years ago. It was noisy and inefficient but worked… until it didn’t. Not too long after the warranty expired it suddenly made a hideous noise and died. Some internal part had failed and it was dead. Luckily, Sam’s accepted the return and refunded my money in full. I ended up getting a cheap window unit that was SO much quieter and was a third of the cost. I would never buy a Delonghi AC unit again. A two hose, inverter type from a more reliable company, if anything.

Only thing I agree with is, inverters are can save one some money in the long run. However, it stops there. Dual hose is not as and in most cases, not as efficient at a single hose. Both houses will generate heat, therefore, you end up with twice the amount of heat leakage from said hoses. Second thing people seem to over look is, LPG as a coolant is the way to go now. From test after tests, 30% savings in heating cost is a nice chunk of change. That’s the average savings. This unit, for it’s costs, is not a bad deal.
