Derby 670 Preview: NEARLY NSFW

Derby 670: NEARLY NSFW -
We’re in the mood for some sneaky subterfuge. Derby #670 should focus on designs that slyly spice things up with subtle NEARLY-NSFW visuals or messages. Just don’t be cruel or crass. Designs can walk right up to and on the line, but shouldn’t cross it.

Some parameters:

 • Nothing crude or vulgar, and keep politics out of it.
 • Innuendo is fine if it’s PG-ish, but sexual suggestiveness or porn is not.
 • Curse words are off limits, but symbols in place of a curse word MAY be okay, as long as they replace the whole word. (i.e.- @#$%^! = cool. F*CK = not cool).
 • No cats or cream tees

Not feeling edgy? Submit your safer, centrist, or socially acceptable designs through the standard submission portal.

I’m predicting foxes. Lots of foxes.

What the fox are you suggesting?

No politics? Why not?

BTW, no cats for next week may more votes to designs with cats this week.

I’m out in the 909 and I can hear your innocent whistle!

Oh, shut the fox up! He’s being too loud.

politics need a perma-ban!

no swearing kittys then hehe

haha too many Trump this and thats I imagine

I don’t care for insults on either side, truthfully. And one can’t really know how many ppl packed up and left due to other politically/leaning derby winners. “If my side is treated well then I like it, but if my side is being insulted it makes me mad…” I would rather it all be cute and fun, than dark and snarky. And I am sure I am not alone.
Just think of a person that you admire; being insulted. You need to assume that other’s may feel that way about any individual that gets targeted. That person means a lot to some ppl; and I think we all need to appreciate this a little more.

WE should turn this thread into a critique as well. Don’t post just a written idea, but an actual sketch, and we can help you to decide where you could go with it, or if the subject may get you $#!±canned.

Sounds like an excellent idea to me!

I think Steven Lefcourt did an excellent job with his non partisan politicZ shirt in last week’s Derby

Exception-al! To me, anything political should be reserved for dailies, and then woot gets to decide it’s fate instead of voters… Ironic, I know.

I think it pretty much has been and given the hateful comments from both sides when a political shirt gets printed, it is probably a good thing.

Politics have been a soft-ban for a long time. Even in things like the “civics” derby of forever ago, there has been pretty slim pickings for folks who wanted to create a political tee.

And really, while politics have always been integral to art, political art needs to come from a pretty honest, firmly held place. That requires an artist willing to make a statement and, more importantly, a producer willing to stand behind the work.

The past couple years hasn’t been quite as tame for Wooters. Sooooo much vitriol. Sooooo much scrubbing.

I firmly stand behind this (fairly tame) design that placed in the latest civility derby. However, if something like this gets 100’s of negative comments, sadly, there is no place on woot for political shirts.

My first reaction was to lean in to the WORK part of NSFW. The Hubs interprets it as more tame dirty jokes. This is my rough draft of one of my ideas. What are we thinking?

It’s simple. Yeah, it could be more irreverent, but if everyone is going “blue” maybe yours will stand-out.

I don’t really have any criticism for it. It would be nice if the little round bits on the front related, somehow, like a stylized nose.

BE aware, tho, there are a lot of NUNYA shirts out there floating around. To keep from getting a “similar shirt exists” you may want to study them a bit to makes your a little unique. The little lion on the shirts a GOOGLE is priceless, tho. His little arm is out, like, NOPE.
