Derby entry comments for Derby #128: Things That Start With The Letter V

This design represents the 11 uncontested members of the genus Vulpes - there is a twelfth member of Vulpes, the Arctic Fox, but I chose to omit it since it’s also sometimes listed as a member of the genus Alopex.

They are, from left to right:
Cape fox (Vulpes chama), Pale fox (Vulpes pallida), Fennec fox (Vulpes zerda), Tibetan Sand fox (Vulpes ferrilata), Ruppell’s fox (Vulpes rueppelli), Blanford’s fox (Vulpes cana), Kit fox (Vulpes macrotis), Bengal or Indian fox (Vulpes bengalensis), Corsac fox (Vulpes corsac), Swift fox (Vulpes velox), and the little baby is the standard Red fox (Vulpes vulpes).

I’ve dressed them in a variety of Victorian-styled clothing, in keeping with the theme of V (and because Victorian stuff is kinda cool). A lot of time and research went into this, and I hope it shows

Thank you for reading! Happy voting and happy new year.

vane  [veyn] –noun

  1. weather vane.
  2. a blade, plate, sail, etc., in the wheel of a windmill, to be moved by the air.
  3. any of a number of blades or plates attached radially to a rotating drum or cylinder, as in a turbine or pump, that move or are moved by a fluid, as steam, water, hot gases, or air. – dictionary (dot) com

I like the whole idea of alternate energy sources. Maybe others will agree and support this design.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

this is so freaking great!

I love your wit and cleverity

(yes, that’s a word. now.)

And such a clever word too. It’s replete with cleverity.

I don’t know if it’s a “face” or if you can call it an expression or what, but I love whatever it is that’s going on with that laserdisc haha

Love the clouds, but the tears are just a little too much for my taste.

An abstract-like rendering of vapor forming a vulture’s head. Can you spot it?

Holy hell…is everyone shoehorning cute, beady-eyed rabbits into designs now just for a print? The only thing vague is the topicality.

I absolutely loVe this design!

A viceroy (North American orange, black, and white butterfly (like a monarch)) extends a visit. 6 colors on yellow.

(Sorry for the quick resub- I noticed a detail that needed a tweak!)

this design promotes violence against helpless creatures. how could you! waggles finger

Terrific design. I love the flowers and the shading, and the composition. All of it. GL

riding a velocipede no less!!

Cute, cute, cute, Robbie.

I know this will be rejected because of text, but I thought it was a perfect entry otherwise. Also, I can’t believe it doesn’t exist already…but, maybe it will??? Vote for this design before it disappears!

lol.

Wow! I love it! I would buy this right away as well. Voted:)

Great choice of thumbnail! Love that guy’s expression, he’s my favorite. And you made the rather strange looking fox look pretty couth! This is really great xaz - you did awesome.

I can see his huge swelling of pride!

(yes I know that’s enzyte)

Glad you ditched the halftones - those lines/hatchmarks look fantastic!
