No more sounding like a robot when you talk through the fan makes this an automatic deal-breaker for me.
Hey woot, just stoppin’ back to drop this off Operator’s Manual
Most important thing I learned is ** DO NOT** use chemicals to clean this fan. Dry or Damp (water) cloth only!!
Can’t wait for this guy to reinvent the toilet.
Anyone else get the same feeling about Dyson as they do from Apple?
They manage to sell things that do the same job as other things that cost 1/10th the amount, and we all thank them for it and give them knighthoods.
I’m not one of those grumpy people who will use their 80’s cell phone until they die either. I buy things when I see the point, even if they are more expensive.
I don’t buy things when I feel I’m being taken advantage of amidst mass marketing hysteria.
This product is very silly.
farty sound
The sad fact is that these things do clog up with dust and are murder to clean. Sure, a damp rag does great on the ring, but inside the ring, inside the motor case, there’s your boondoggle. Even at $100, I think I’d rather the $15 fans that output “chunks” of air.
I’m not sure I get the “long hair and pets” thing. Is that a big problem?
You seriously think so? What Apple product costs 10x more than a competitor product with the same specs?
I don’t think that was the point. I think the point was that Apple sells their phones for about 3 times what they should be, considering the specs.
As for this product, it works as good as any other fan. If you’re actually worried about child/pet safety, then this is the fan for you. Otherwise, just go buy one at a store for a 3rd of the price and be just as happy.
Picked one of these up the last time woot had them - these are B grade refurbs so they’ve seen some love. Are they better than a $20 box fan? no not really…are they quiet? nope not any quieter than that $20 box fan…do they look cool - yup way cooler than that box fan. That being said - I do enjoy mine, but that’s because I already bought it.
I took a look at these in the store a bit over a year ago. I admit that they’re pretty cool, and you’ll enjoy playing with them for a few minutes. After that, the novelty wore off for me.
That’s how I feel.

Dyson: We don’t make it better, we make it more expensive!
Do these fans use the same wattage as similar conventional fans?
This is of interest to me. Our house gets very dusty even when I vacuum with my Dyson DC25 (which no longer really impresses me). Add to this a high humidity situation and you’ve got dust that likes to stick to surfaces and clump up.
Since this ‘fan’ has it’s air intake at the bottom, does it have some type of element filter or does it just suck up bottom dust and spray it around?
Is cleaning the intake fan assembly and the ring-thingy user serviceable? Any reports of the ring exhaust holes clogging up?
(I suppose I could “LMGTFY”)

Looks cool, but if you really want to move some air, you’re much better off with a Vornado.
Seconded - Vornado is second to none. Good call. Also, if he reinvented the toilet it would have to be more than just novel. Nothing but the best for human waste, right?
Purchased one 'bout a month ago. Works Great! Just purchased 2 more. Just thinking ‘bout the grand-kids. It’s not totally quiet but by far quieter than a conventional fan. The amount of air it moves is astounding. I can feel the breeze from 20’ away.
bluejester Im with you. It looks cool but imo it does not work as well as my $25 regular blade fan that I hae had for years. heked this out in a store and it judt did not feel ery powerful.
I keep thinking this would be great for my church nursery which gets too hot and doesn’t have room for a bladed fan anywhere safe. That’s the big feature right? Child safety?
Don’t fans have screens that cover the blades, or are those tiny probing fingers that small?
I’ve never heard of anyone complain about fan turbulence until Dyson brought it up. I have a collection of old fans, and several of them produce a very smooth flow of air, due to the blade design. Face it, the Dyson looks cool, but it’s just a ring with little jets in it, powered by a–eek—fan in the base. $99 is better than its retail price, though. Safe for cats and kids too. But revolutionary? No.
Exactly. You are paying for the safety and the style, but not for anything revolutionary.
Not for pet owners. The “fan” in the base clogs up with hair and is nearly impossible to get clean. Either go with an inexpensive fan you can replace when it gets “hairy” or one you can easily take apart and clean.
FYI…CONSUMER REPORTS did an analysis of tabletop, box fans, etc. last year and they showed that DYSON’s fan was a not worth the money.
There was a 20$ fan that had equal performance in moving air.
The only reason you would need a DYSON fan is if you have kids or individuals who cannot stop themselves from sticking parts of their bodies or stuff into the blades of a normal fan.
The Dyson fan is still a fan…its just in the base of the unit and the air is forced through the ring…so its kind of a like a jet engine model versus a prop plane.
Bought one last time if was on woot. The fan works awesome, we have it in the cabin of our boat and it really helps move the a/c around to keep it really cold. I can feel the breeze from about 10 feet away. Everyone who comes in the cabin is drawn to it and its funny to watch them dart their hands in the center and pull them back real quick. IMO its worth the money, is a little loud but nothing to serious.
