I got one of these several years ago as a xmas gift and it’s the bee’s knees! This has lowered my electrical and gas bills and I have not had to use my gas heater in the past two years. I strongly recommend it!
I bought one the last time Woot sold it. It was so F’ing loud on the lowest speed setting, I couldn’t stand it so I couldn’t stand so I sent it back!. I have hair dryers that are quieter!
I loved the concept so much I thought i would look at the much improved Dyson AM09. Incredibly, I bought the re-designed Dyson AM09 at retail, less 20%, at Bed & Bath and it is a completely different experience. It is so quiet you can use in your bedroom or around a quiet dinner table. Several new features added, including wide and narrow dispertion of heat. Great product!
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME with the AM05, it is a flawed product and you will probably be disappointed. Good luck!

Came here to comment on my fan since I own one and find out there’s a recall issued. Haha. Thanks to the poster for that.
As far as the fan itself, it works alright. Nothing fancy. Bought it from someone who won it off beezid or one of those auction sites, so didn’t pay full retail. Would I purchase it again? No. Not worth even the recall price here. Not a very powerful fan for blowing the cool air around. The heat function is decent and it’ll warm the bathroom up eventually, so that part is useful.
Easy, Sometimes when products ship a component could become lose or motor cease to function. Since its under warranty it would be returned to store or factory. Instead of throwing the item away it may be repaired. IE replacing the failed component. But because it had been used 1 hr or 30 days or longer they cant sell as new it has to be sold as refurbished. There are different types of refurbished as well. You have manufactured refurbished which means Dyson factory fixed it or refurbished that could mean an authorized repair company fixed it.
I have an AM05 purchased through woot as a refurbished. Havent had any problems and in comparison to a regular fan it is quieter. Like any fan it can generate vibrations so depending on the surface you set it on it could create more noise. Those concerned about recall this is why its refurbished it could have been returned for the recall and then repaired.
I came here just to echo this sentiment. I also had the AM05 and mostly used it for white noise while sleeping (dang tinnitus), but the lowest fan speed was way too loud; go figure. Upgraded to AM09 and love it.
So… Lots of less than stellar reviews here. What do people have to say about the 834 VERY positive reviews on Costco (a website not generally as susceptible to skewed reviews as say, Amazon)?
I bough tone of these in the fall of 2015, October I think. It was completely broken by March of 2016. stopped rotating, which I could put up with, butt then wouldn’t start completely. Dyson did send a replacement as there was a recall on the AM05 model, and i was upgraded to the AM09 model.
