I’ve found Echo Dots with clock display to be very useful when I don’t want to disturb others who are napping/sleeping/on calls/etc., so when deals arise, I’ve been slowly swapping out old Dots for ones with displays. However, it seems like newest Dots do not have clock display as a feature. I imagine this is to train users to interact with their Echo Dots via voice only, not eyeballs, but maybe there’s another angle I’m missing?
The one with display is a different model that woot is not offering. This is a good deal on the new dot, but I prefer the low profile of the previous generations. Takes up less space and can fit under things.
This is just about the lowest price (aside from bundle promos) I’ve seen so far for the 4th gen Echo Dot, admittedly used in this case.
We still prefer the 3rd gen Echo Dot hockey puck form factor to this odd globular 100% fabric covered dust collector form factor. And the sound quality difference is difficult to discern, even side by side.
Hate the fabric. That’s my only gripe about my Echo Studio. And once the dirt gets in there, even vacuuming it doesn’t get it back to ‘new’ looking. Who the hell thought that was a good idea?
Anyone have one of these and know what the wireless range is? I got my dad a third generation and he says the range is half that of the second generation and his Echow Show gen 1 so he believes that every generation has poorer wireless and won’t get a newer one.
We own the same three Echo devices as your dad in our collection. We’ve never found significant wifi range differences across Echo devices and never heard that after many years of use and research. But we have pretty solid wifi coverage. Dangerous to generalize based upon a single apparently malfunctioning example. Have you tested his 3rd gen Dot in a different environment? We’ve found it to be the most solid performer of all four gens.
The sole Echo device we like least? The Echo Auto. It got better with updates but remains inconsistent.
