I was just about to start shopping for a replacement fan… May just be perfect timing. Anyone have a link to the Hunter approved wall switch for speed control mentioned in the manual?
Meh. So-so deals on these fans. I got a 52" Hampton Bay at Costco with a remote for $90 a few years ago. The remote has three fan speeds and light on/off/dimmer. No complaints at all.
I’ve got a pair of the 20177’s in my home with maple colored blades. I like 'em. They’re sturdy, attractive, and quiet. The cherry finish looks better though!
If I could change anything I’d lose the Candelabra Bulbs so that I could use some of my type-A CFLs.

Ya what’s up with that? Using tiny little bulbs. I had one installed and it was not worth the light. So now the light is just for décor. Which is stupid. If your going to put a,light on a fan and have it on a celing higher that 18 feet. Make the light function. These 40 watt bulbs are just stupid.

Hunter fans are my fav. I have one that has been running non stop for 6 years and have had not a single problem out of it.

I’ll see your six years and raise it to 20.
Looks good, works great, never any problems. I bought a floor stand fan by Hunter just b/c the ceiling fan has been so great.

Just FYI I’ve seen the LED ones at home improvement stores and the light is very dim.

Costco has three 40W equivalent LED bulbs for $10. The problem is the light is obnoxious for bedrooms. Everything looks light grey. I have used the bulbs for a chandelier in a center hall and for a small light on at certain times of the night, but for general use, they’re terrible. I thought the light output was fairly good, relatively close to the 60W incandescents with which I replaced them. Unfortunately, if you want brighter candelabra bulbs, they’re very expensive elsewhere ($30/bulb). I’m using incandescents until LEDs come down in price and have nice light.
I do use many LEDs in my house that have good light, but you have to buy them and test them to see if they’re OK.
The benefit to candelabra bulbs is that the light part of the fixture can be thinner. That’s a huge benefit if you have 7 foot ceilings. I just installed three Minka-Aire fans that are similar to these and have candelabra bulbs, and I spent a lot of time in a store looking at fans. Regular bulbs add several inches to the light fixture.
I use Cree LED bulbs in a lot of places in my home and they look great. I was just saying that the ceiling fans I’ve seen with built in LED lights look terrible.

I agree with you, LED is too new to buy without testing to see if you like the light output and the light “color” (eg, temperature, but I think the LED manufacturers lie about the temperature). I have some 60W equivalent CREE bulbs (the $6 ones from Home Cheapo) and they produce a horrible looking light. However, I have some 60W equivalent Philips bulbs, and they produce a very nice light but are (or were) $4 more. I use the CREE bulbs in the basement and the Philips in living areas.
As for the candelabra version, two bulbs is not enough light for most areas. You need at least three bulbs if you want light output that’s enough for tasks.
You’re funny. The Hunter fans are strong, quiet and beautiful. My flush mounted Hampton bay ceiling fan we couldn’t get to stop wobbling and making very rhythmic noises. In the guest bedroom, the guests didn’t feel so safe under it.
The Hunter fan, even with a drop extension, operates “rock solid” reliably. In fact, we brought it with us when we moved and bought two new ones. The dining room one has a 3 speed remote for the fan and controls the mood light underneath.

7 foot ceilings? Aside from basements, who has 7 foot ceilings? Are you Hobbits?
As NOT ONE of these fans seems to have a remote, you’re OUT OF LUCK if you’re putting it on an elevated ceiling (bedroom where we’d have placed them is 18-ft cathedral), or are unwilling to have those silly threads hanging down. The cherry fans are pretty, but they’re also pretty inconvenient for a lot of uses.
I just discovered an article about wall switches. Apparently, you can put them on your wall, and they control lights, fans, and more! No more 18’ strings hanging from your cathedral ceiling! You should look into it.

So, are you saying that you are a “fan” of the Hunter Brand?
We are also. I’ve found Hunter has bypassed Casablanca fans in recent years. In both homes, North & South we have Hunter fans throughout many with remotes. We do have the wall switches changed out to accommodate light on, no fan, fan on, no light or any other setting we choose. They’re great. Ater watching 1 installed I was able to change the others alone without difficulty.

You can buy remote kits that work with any fan. I just put in a dual remote (wall and handheld) on my bedroom fan.
My experience with them, however, is that even the ones that come with fans burn out after maybe 3-5 years. I keep having to replace mine, and a lot of the reviews on Amazon, HD, and Lowes seem to have similar experiences.
