I don’t get it. Nothing in this product’s write-up convinces me that it’s worth the price tag. Nor are these spices that are difficult to acquire. Does this company have a reputation I’m not aware of?
The thing that bothers me about this is there is no scale to see how big those jars are, they could be thimbles or they could be softball sized. The price is kind of hard to consider without knowing just how big those are. Are there any more pictures with a ruler or some other items we can gauge the size? And what makes these so special? Are they organic or special in some way or is this just regular stuff in jars of unknown size?
There should always be a picture with something we can get an idea of how big these things are, grams or ounces doesn’t really cut it for me.
Probably unintentional but it feels deceptive to me.
And for that reason, I’m out.
The sizes are listed, between 0.6oz to 2.6oz. Also listed in the text below.
The paprika is one of the largest amount and if bought in that quantity about the same, but expensive when compared to a larger container. Bag of 4oz is for example $1.15/oz while a 16-18oz container gets the price to below $0.70/oz.
Oh come on, I am sure it is fair trade and gluten free. And has no animal products in it. Now open that wallet wide.
Doh! I forget, no GMO either. I bet you did not know that GMO paprika was such a hot topic.
Slapping forehead, and sustainable. You are really helping the planet if you buy this stuff. Cheap at twice the cost.
Best quality:price is hands down Penzey’s. Only place we’ve order from.
Is it confirmed these are conflict free? I would pay 3 times that rate for conflict free, non-GMO, gluten free spices.
It is noble that she would volunteer to cook for everyone and although I have never had potato salad. I sense this white woman does not season her food and if she does it is only with a tiny bit of salt and no paprika and she will probably add something unnecessary like raisins.
If you visit their store, linked in the description, you’d find that each bottle is $5. When you include shipping, it comes to a total of $35.00 and not $35.99. Add that if this is your first time ordering from them, you receive 10% off if you subscribe. With that discount, it would be $33.00 But, consider that you would get free shipping on orders over $40…
This is not really a good deal on spices to begin with…
Nicer hex jars on mothership: https://www.amazon.com/4-Ounce-Hexagon-12-Pack-Preserves-Kitchen/dp/B0171YP2H8/ref=sr_1_10?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1538485391&sr=1-10&keywords=jars
$1.33 a jar or $8 for 6.
Cumin seed $0.56/oz x 2.5 = $1.4
Thyme $1.02/oz x 1 = $1.02
Paprika $0.63/oz x 2.4 = $1.51
Chili $0.82/oz x 2.3 = $1.87
Red pepper $0.45/oz x 1.6 = $0.72
Oregano $2.48/oz x 0.6 = $1.49
Cost to make your own via Amazon Prime $16.01 and you get it in 2 days.
This is a really, really bad deal. Like, even compared to most the crap on “Gourmet”, its a really bad deal.
Throw in a garlic powder and seasoned salt and you’d hit 8-some of cheap spices. Unless I’m missing something how are these any better than the 99 cent a jar generic spices I can pick up at Walmart and Kroger? I just checked my local Kroger and Adams has almost the exact same weights for 1.50 to 2.50 a bottle.
Most discount, dollar and drug stores sell bottles of spices for $0.99/ea. Or you can go to any co-op and get them in bulk even cheaper.
Every time Woot does something that makes me facepalm and I think they can’t sink any lower, they surprise me.
Ya, and they’re crap. Anyone with a modicum of cooking experience knows that most of those spices have very little flavor, flavors are usually off, and often are stale right out of the bottle.
