Kasa Smart Plug Mini with Energy Monitoring

I have this and it’s great for my outdoor freezer in my garage. I can check to make sure it’s still running.

This is a good price, but I can’t think of another application for these in my home. Anyone that uses one, what do you use the energy monitoring for?

Smart plugs are great, but you can only tell if they are supposedly turned on. The energy-monitoring can tell you if there is anything actually drawing current from the plug (i.e., whatever is behind it hasn’t blown a fuse) - and you may not CARE that much if you’re nearby.
I’m always concerned for load-ratings on these plugs, if their relays or solid-state switches can survive peak-motor-startup currents for example. Putting one in line with an electric-vehicle charger would be “informative”.
Consider the risks (commitment) of load-testing a plug with your fridge/freezer full of food. Don’t trust stupidly…

Hrm, I have the basic (non energy monitorimg) ones and they work well with our Alexa ecosystem.

Anyone else have any more ideas what the energy monitorimg would be useful for? Every light in our house is LED, so I don’t think we’d gain much benefit putting them on lamps.

Our refrigerator/freezer is already smart things enabled (so I’d get an alert if the power goes out) and I can’t think of any reason to be able to turn it on/off remotely.

I’m wondering is buying a thermostat let’s the utility companies control your AC and Heat. Like what happened in Texas.

Not such a great deal. A few months ago they had BN-LINK smart plugs with monitoring @ 4 for $21.99. Those could be flashed with Tasmota which allows direct access to the device without have to go through some server somewhere.

Yes it’ll work, just make sure this amps exceeds the amps on the charger

duuuuuuuuuuude thank you. this is great information and a fun project for me <3
