LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt USB 3.0 - 1TB Portable Hard Drive | Reverb
Way cheaper elsewhere and more capacity also. $169.99 for a traditional 1 gig. Just not a Solid State Drive.
[MOD: Price is not cheaper.]

The specs on all these drives seem all over the place.
I think we finally figured out why woot isn’t the same anymore…they can’t do simple math.
Let’s see here… $265 shipped for a refurb 500GB at Woot… $170 shipped for a new 1TB at Reverb. Hmmm…decisions, decisions.
Does seem odd a 500gb drive is 250 and the 2tb drives are about a 100 bills cheaper. And as these are refurbished, one has to wonder just how “tuff” they are. All portable drives are pretty good at handling moving around from place to place (but not a drop from a 4 story building per say), but why not just drop 120 bucks for a 4tb portable drive, get a case for it (WD makes one for it’s drives and it’s cheap). Just odd a much smaller drive is cheaper then a much bigger capacity drive.
The 500GB is an SSD whereas the 1TB and larger are traditional spinning harddrives. I also thought it was odd the 500GB was way more than the 1TB until I read the descriptions.
Woot is selling the refurbed 1TB drive for $140 and the 2TB for $180.
Edit - Best price I can find elsewhere for the new 500GB SSD (LAC9000491) is about $450.
Ah glad you cleared that up, definitely seemed strange.
I have been told to never buy a refurbished hard drive because it has been used. it has been loaded with data and refurbished or not, the available space is uncertain.
additionally, if it is refurbished then something was wrong with the unit previously. A broken or defective unit now made right? i doubt that.
