Product Auto Update Expiration date

Is Google sticking to those update dates, or are they letting things slide?
That was my concern exactly. That’s the problem I’ve had with Chromebooks. So much for the much vaunted security once the updates stop. Built-in obsolescence.

Small Print: If you already purchased, that money will hop back into your pockets soonish.
I purchased an LG Chromebase for my mom when they first came out. It was perfect for her since all she needed it for was email and occasional web surfing. I loved that the updates were automatic and security was built in. No more having to rid her Windows computer of malware.
Then they stopped doing updates (it was an earlier model than the one shown here). That pissed me off as it seemed more like planned obsolescence than hardware limitations. They also made no mention of discontinuing updates when I bought the unit. I believe this was Google’s decision more than LG’s. I will now be forever wary of Chrome OS-based computers as a result.
I suggest you stay away from these since the updates have stopped.
So for those that decided to buy this comp, what are you going to do with it now that the “Auto-Update” is expired? Isnt it basically just a $200 brick?
The computer doesn’t stop working. It just won’t receive auto updates.
