Mountain House Freeze Dried Meal 9-Pack

After I posted, I started to second-guess myself. So while I was out, I went to Costco and got the details. the ones at Costco do NOT appear to be the single-servings, since the sign says “13 individual pouches, 34 servings.” Here are the details:

13 Pack Variety box contains:
3 Breakfast skillet (Hash browns and scrambled eggs mixed with pork sausage patty, peppers and onions.

3 Beef Stroganoff

3 Rice and Chicken

3 Spagh. with meat sauce

1 Apple crisp

Price is $46.99 (after instant rebate of $12).

Thanks for the update. That makes these $1.78 per serving ($80 for 45 servings) vs Costco which is .72 per serving ($47 for 34 servings). Costco MUCH better price.

Not to mention that you can buy more than three at Costco.

you’re attributing too much value to the apple crisp, which is basically garbage calories, and really not what I’d count in a serving count. But even if you did count it, it’s only 2 servings per package and one package of it.

Going off of the mountain house website, the calcs I’ve got still places Costco well ahead in value, but not quite as much as you calculated. Here’re the deets:

Costco overall value: 52% discount after instant rebate. (not offered in my area).

Woot overall value: 34% discount.

Costco value $/ serving: $1.47/serving

Woot overall value: $1.78/serving

Costco Total # of Servings (counting apple crisp) 32

Woot total number of servings: 45

Costco total Calories Delivered: 8445

Woot Total calories delivered: 10,650

Is it me, or are these calorie counts pretty piddly all around? I suspect my appetite would account for 2 servings easily (and if my recollection serves, I believe that’s about accurate, which kinda makes me cringe wrt the sodium count).

Good analysis and detail but the apple crisp is 4 servings per package and makes the original math correct on cost per serving.

Moutain House Apple Crisp

Because these are LOADED with MSG. There are healthier options out there.

$47 / 34 is $1.38 per serving, not $0.72 per serving. The original math is dead wrong. You took the wrong value to be the denominator.
