Does that say $900 for a refurb GE63 with a 1060 card? Who is the person setting the price on your refurb laptops? 1660ti in a laptop is capable of 180 FPS in a game like Modern Warfare, where the very outdated 1060 like this laptop will be lucky to get at least 30% less FPS. Add in the fact that you have a 200 GB SSD which wonât handle the operating system and 1 game such as Modern Warfare and you will quickly see this laptop is outdated by todayâs standards. On top of this, this laptop is using very outdated and very cheap 2400MHz RAM. No one in their right mind would pay this price for this laptop when Black Friday and Cyber Monday had tons of laptops that will double this ones performance for $200 more, brand new.
- i7-8750H 2.2 GHz (4.1 GHz Turbo, 9MB Cache)
- 16GB Dual Channel 2400 MHz Ram (32GB max)
- 256GB M.2 SATA SSD + 1TB 7200 RPM HDD
- GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 Graphics
So 2400 MHZ ram? Woof.
256 GB of SATA? Donât plan on playing Modern Warfare 2 on that lol.
GTX 1060? Woof.
120Hz? Lol, why? You pushing 1440p? 144hz in 1080p or go home.

If youâre buying a $1000 refurbished gaming laptop in 2019 and not getting at least 144Hz, i7-8750H, 2666MHz 16GB RAM, 1660TI GPU, and a 500 GB SSD, youâre getting ripped off by todayâs standards.
1060 < 1660ti < 2060; you can find plenty of 2060s in this price range, you can find even more 1660tiâs.
This outdated laptop is full of bottlenecks between itâs RAM and GPU. Plenty of 9750Hs out there in this range too.
I wouldnât pay this price for this laptop brand new.
LENOVO LEGION Y740, 15.6" IPS 500NITS, 144HZ, G-SYNC, I7-9750H, GEFORCE RTX 2060 6GB, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD PCIe + $458.66 (Rakuten points) $1349.99
I9750H, RTX 2060, GSYNC 144Hz display, 16 GB 2666MHz, Thunderbolt 3 port, 500 nits display. Only bad part is itâs a 3 cell battery, but who is running a gaming laptop on a battery anyway? This also has 4x the SSD space at 1 TB instead of 256GB which is a joke in a gaming laptop.
Brand new, $1350 (+$460 in Raku points for future purchases).

It looks like both of the Slickdeals links in your post have expired
I would just search the specs you want in the slickdeals search function and sort results by date and avoid expired deals BUT use them as a benchmark for potential. These deals typically last 24 hours but are far better than this. Iâve seen 17" MSI with 2070 cards go for 1400, which is a damn steal. Spend $1000 on something like this takes away your potential to do a lot better and be more future proof.
You really want the thunderbolt though if you plan on using a monitor.
Search terms such as â17 1660ti ssd 16â typically gives good results. To explain 17 is monitor size, 1660ti is GPU you can replace that with 2070 if you want a better build than that. If youâre looking to drop near 2k switch it to 2080 or 2080ti. The SSD is just to ensure you only get SSD laptops, and the 16 is for RAM, change it to 32 if you want to spend more. If monitor size doesnât matter and you want a 15" the sky is the limit. You can find some very impressive 15" laptops cheap. I personally am old and prefer 17" or using a 24"-27" monitor.
Ryzens make better gaming computers but require higher clock speeds on the RAM. This is expensive with laptops but with desktops you can build beasts for under 2k. A lot of very top end prebuilds were beating self build prices prior to black friday.
Gaming technology is about to change by the end of the month so could be better to wait.
I agree that this is not a great deal, but I have a very similar MSI that is a few years old and can vouch that they do at least have good build quality. Have been using MSI gaming laptops for the past 10 years and they have done me well. However, there are certainly better deals out there right now.
Iâm just here to say: I miss Ecto Cooler.
MSI make great builds, this just is an outdated one.
