Let the gambling begin
woot has increased the price for gamblers
Gambler Games: “May the odds be ever in your favour…”
Can these be returned if we don’t like it?
Hopefully the ol wooters will post.
Yes, you can return them.
Here we go again with the “will it or won’t it run Windows 11”.
At minimum, you should expect to receive the following: Intel Core i5-8250U CPU or newer
most will support Windows 11
If the first statement is true, then the second statement should be “all will support Windows 11” unless there’s a chance you’ll get one of those extremely rare workstation class laptops with an 8th gen Xeon.
Thats not how that works. . . The motherboard also has to have support for windows 11. (TMP 2.0 support)
Somebody out there bought 3 of these… I think they have a problem.
Or they’re an adult and can make their own grown-up decisions on what they want to spend their money on.
Adults make plenty of poor choices too.
Edit: Since some people have issues understanding using logic and reason when makeing purchases; you can currently get a NEW 15" touch screen 12th gen i3 with the rest of the specs being at least as good as the base promised for $30 more. If $30 matters that much to you, you probably shouldn’t be gambling on a refurb. Shouldn’t seem like a difficult decision to make.
I got one of these the last time when they were $179.99 and the only spec difference is the minimum CPU (low end last time was a i5-6300U & this time it is a i5-8250U). I have only turned it on and set up Windows so far, so I really can’t comment on the actual quality of the machine. I am planning on using it as a USB file storage computer for my laser engraver printer, embroidery sewing machine, and 3d printer, where all I need to do is have a PC with a USB port to send files to the devices, so there are uses for these older machines.
Rufus is your friend. With Rufus and a Windows 11 ISO, you can put Windows 11 on any of these computers.
If Woot! really wanted to move these, they should offer a volume discount. Sell 'em by the shovel load. Maybe even sell a super-cheap “box of laptops that look like they were used as clay pigeons but still turn on, in defiance of god and reason”. Embrace the digital flea market. Become the digital flea market.
What’s the highest spec laptop someone has got from one of these?
Alright I’m gambling.
You order 3 and your chances of getting the best one go up. If you get one, return the other two. If not, send them all back.
If they made the baseline laptop something with a Core i7, 16 GB of RAM, a 1080p display, and a 512 GB SSD… this wouldn’t feel so much like gambling. Of course, they would probably need to raise the price to $300, then.
A chance of a 720p display in 2024 seems like a deal-breaker to me.
Will this work on a Mac?
