Nakamichi 6.8" Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Touchscreen

It LOOKS like all is ok. Of course sometimes you can have damage that you can’t see, but there are no rattles of any sort and nothing is physically broken that can be seen. There IS foam padding in the factory box that it was in. I am going to connect the wiring harness to my car’s harness adapter this evening and I’ll try to plug it in to the factory harness either tomorrow night or Saturday and if I have any problems I will contact customer service and let them know. Thank you for getting back to me!

Okay! But if you end up unsatisfied, give them a shout, they’re great. Thanks for your business!

I grabbed one and ordered everything I needed from Amazon too. But went to crutchfield and entered my car info. They told me exactly what I needed to do the job. Only been installed a week, but it was pretty darn easy to slap in. Huge upgrade for my 2012 Honda Accord

Bought two. Put one in my wife’s old mustang. It’s nice. Used to be a snob about head units but for a vast that I’d only driven 100 miles a year. It’s perfect.
Neither of the units light up…
I’m taking about the buttons for volume and such. Major pain the the butt at night. Should light up and change colors but neither unit does either.

I wired the harness up to my car’s harness adapter last night, got up early and put it in the car this morning, and everything seems to be working as it’s supposed to, thankfully. Thanks for getting back to me, I was a little bewildered when I saw how it was packed. Thankfully the foam in the factory box for the head unit was enough to protect it!

So, my sister is interested in this… The Bluetooth audio on her car is pretty cruddy, according to people, she talks to on the phone while driving… Does this really have its own microphone that might be better? Or does it just plug-in to some existing Bluetooth connection?…. Some of the other features would certainly be an upgrade for her, but I think this is the main thing she is looking for…

So, the 24 year-old car did not have Bluetooth, did it? If not, does that mean that this has its own Bluetooth microphone- and you can now make and receive phone calls through it (It doesn’t write through an existing microphone)?

Does it seem pretty decent for that purpose? My sister is looking for one that would override the Bluetooth in her car and pair directly with the device, since her car’s Bluetooth call quality is pretty cruddy… She has an iPhone, for what that’s worth…

She might just try and external microphone. This unit does have its own mic and you can hook up an external one too. But have her try that first

What year/make/model car? Integrated Bluetooth is a more modern feature and the head unit might be “too integrated” to be able to swap out for a universal aftermarket unit like this.

A muffled mic might be as simple as dust or some other obstruction.

(Note that I am not staff. I just volunteer to help out on the forums.)

I’ve reviewed this before. It works great in my 2005 Honda Element. It’s double din so make sure your older car uses a double din sized stock radio. It’s easy to make it play dvds while you’re driving. Just look up on YouTube how to do so. I bought the appropriate harness from Crutchfield so it was mostly plug and play.

As others have already replied - I’m using a hard-wired mic with it, so no Bluetooth shenanigans. I have had no complaints about call quality from my end, or from anyone on the receiving end of the phone calls that I have made.

For those who have bought and installed, did you need to buy an install kit or does it come with everything you need, minus the wiring harness?

As long as your car can accommodate a double-DIN stereo, you should be fine. A quick search shows a number of double-DIN dash kits available for the 2013 Highlander from Amazon and other sources, so you should be able to install with one of those kits.

I have one of these installed in a 2009 Kia Spectra, and other than the volume control being kinda wonky and it having gone into an odd state for a couple of days when I first installed it, it’s worked very well.

I used a Metra dash kit for my install (2009 Kia Spectra). You’re probably going to need a dash kit that is made for your car, as every car’s instrument panel is different.

It can accommodate a double din. I wasn’t sure if a kit would be needed as if I was going to a single din.

Can anyone verify if this has wireless CarPlay or if it’s only through usb?

Depends on your car, some need a bracket, some need a big piece to fill in the dash where a large integrated unit went. But wiring harness is a very big plus, you can do it without it but you’ll be cutting and matching wires for a while, and some cars require an adapter to use integrated USB ports or microphone, and if you still use OnStar or BlueLink or anything like that it’s a separate adapter.

I will never buy another Nakamichi stereo. The one I purchased and went to great lengths to install failed within 2 weeks after the warranty expired and the back up camera function quit within 2 months. Don’t waste your money, buy something better. BTW, I’ve been an electronics tech for over fifteen years. These are cheap junk and not worth the money

Where can I buy an extended warranty for this ? I feel like the few dollars extra would be worth it on this puchase.
