Good to know! I was thinking about getting one, but I have Verizon. Darn it!

Speaking generally and not specifically about this model, someone with lots of spare time and motivation might be able to tweak carrier settings, but it’s a mess and it’s tough to get just right. I had to do this with a cellular modem and it’s painful. It’s totally not worth it for a cheapy tablet it unless it’s a challenge for fun. This is probably a useless comment, but I’m a nerd, among other things.

FYI, comes with Android 12. While 15 is coming out this summer you should assume TCL will not provide OS updates beyond 12. In other words, assume you’ll be on 12 forever.

MSRP is a POINTLESS Price.

Older iPad mini pricing starts at ~$50 (macsales), with their ā€œretinaā€ displays and lacking cellphone connectivity, that are a better size and performance than a no-name tablet. non-oem Android devices tend to be un-upgradable within a short period of End-Of-Sale.

Um, what? TCL is a very well-known company. I’m not speaking of their tablets, per se, but just the company as a whole.

You’re silly. Apple is the only brand.

Personally I prefer to AVOID Apple mobile devices because of how locked down they are. I’ve used and supported both since the first generation Android and Apple devices. One size does not fit all.

Sure, for my grandma I would recommend an Apple device. For everyone else, there are a lot of factors that weigh on the decision.

The iPad mini isn’t even a comparable device. This is a 10" tablet. The macsales equivalent would be a 5th gen iPad that goes for $109 and has a significantly slower processor and half the RAM.

oh, a tablet. for most people, it ends up just being a paperweight or dust collectoršŸ˜…

12 is terrible.

FWIW, my 2 cents. Back in the day as a engineering grad, even though I had to write code in basic and translate to apple for my college lab, I spurned the proprietary nature, the pricing and the inability of Apple devices to play well with the PCs I used for design work & for later teaching solid modeling. No surprise, right? In my world everyone has used android tablets since their inception for both work & play. Personally, I own four Samsung tablets and seamlessly exchange data with my PCs. I especially enjoy their portability for doing my design sketches & doing artistic drawings, casting info to my big screens, browsing, emails, etc. Android tablets are a fantastic tool for ā€œeveyoneā€ regardless of age or need. However I would caution anyone considering this tablet to … well … give pause. As others have previously mentioned, it’s clear you will not be able to progress beyond, or receive any support, beyond android 12. And, though the chinese owned company TCL has a good reputation of value for their tv’s, from the research I’ve done, I don’t expect the same for this tablet. Granted it’s inexpensive but I would caution anyone with lofty expectations. I would warn novices to android tablets to steer clear. Those who are well versed know what they’re getting into.

Based on?

It would have been nice if they gave us a list of carriers it does work with.

Hello Mobile, which uses the T-Mobile network, when I entered the TAB 10’s IMEI number into their compatibility check, says it’s compatible. I haven’t tried it yet, but that’s the only good news I can give at this point.

Does anyone know if this or any similar tablets have their new paper technology that’s sort of like halfway between E and again OLED? I think they might call it TCL Next Paper or something.

It looks pretty cool, especially for people that like to read a lot. or that hate glossy surfaces.

I don’t have the answer to the screens but you can solve the glossy surface with a matte screen protector. I do that for my iPad.
