NINJA DT201 Foodi 10-in-1 XL Pro Air Fry (Open Box)

NINJA DT201 Foodi 10-in-1 XL Pro Air Fry (Open Box)

Is this the Ninja toaster oven DT201, or the DT251 that has the thermometer and thermometer-based cooking programs, dehydrate function, and extra ceramic cooking pan?

I see DT251 in the specs and a couple photos.

So, I didn’t end up going for this sale. But in case it comes up again:

I bought a refurb on Amazon (sold “like new,” but it arrived in a plain non-retail brown box, with Ninja’s refurbished manual claiming the product had just a few months warranty, and tons of dents in the steel all across the left side), DT251 model with the thermometer and “smart cooking” modes where it uses the thermometer instead of a timer to know when meat is done cooking.

Again, this was from Amazon:

Well, it seemed like the max temp the refurb could reach was way less than it needed to be… I cooked one fry tray layer of 6 chicken drumsticks for 30 minutes set to 400°F (recipe called for 18-22 minutes @390°F), they looked like this:

The meat was still pink and undercooked at the center! I ended up putting them back in the oven and “air frying” them at 450°F for another 25 minutes; the meat had finally (gently) cooked through and was safe to eat, but the skin was still gross like rubber. I cooked several other things, but even with extended times I couldn’t get anything browned or crispy (except a tiny bit of browning on cheese once). So, I returned it, making sure to select the reason as “defective” so it wouldn’t be another customer’s problem. Still, I really did like the size of the thing, the ceramic coated pans, and the price.

Well, the price was too good, and I knew WalMart was selling the Ninja DT201 for $199. I would find out once and for all if these ovens just were not designed to get hot enough, and if so I could just drive it back to the store for an immediate refund. Good news!!! The design is good, and I imagine most people will get good results! My new (not refurb) DT201 lacks the thermometer and “smart cooking” function, but it was able to crisp roasted veggies and bake fish well on the first try!

We have sort of an unusual fridge situation… our main fridge is in the garage  But I carried up a mini fridge last weekend, and put the new oven on top; by putting a cutting board on top of that, it’s a comfortable height for me to cut things (or rest a hot plate without scratching or burning anything), and it frees up another big space on my countertop previously taken up by the oven (and previously by my old pop-up toaster + George Foreman grill)!

So, with this toaster oven helping reduce bills and reduce overall heat in the kitchen/house, and the compact size atop our compact fridge, I feel like I’ve found a life hack! I would recommend the Ninja Foodi over the popular Cuisinart toaster oven w/ air fry, because it cooks more evenly rather than burning spots, and while the Breville was highly recommended and sure looks nice, the Breville costs $150 more (same price everywhere, so might as well use a 20% Bed Bath and Beyond coupon) and has less capacity in the height department, and the Ninja’s baking tray is nicer (feels like it will be more durable, and the ceramic non-stick has made cleaning the Ninja’s tray easy)! However, I would recommend buying new with the full warranty, or buying from somewhere that allows returns of defective products. :v:
