Hey, y’all! I was curious to see what everyone had planned for New Year’s Eve. @theGR00M and I are rolling out to Myrtle Beach for a countdown, and we have super special outfits for the party, too. We’re hoping for many shenanigans, and for everyone around us to have fun, but to make it home safe and sound as well.
What’s everyone doing for the big bash? Or are y’all just heading to bed early? Honestly I’m gonna have to hook a gallon of coffee to my veins to make it to midnight as it is.
I’d sleep, except for the fireworks/bombs going off at night freaking out Shelby.
She’s the nervous one in front here…
Blazer usually doesn’t care what happens.
I’m recovering from strep which ruined my birthday and Christmas. That then turned into Covid after my spouse tested positive although I was negative when they tested me a few days earlier and determined I had strep instead. Now, I’m being reminded that I failed to produce a child this month. It’s fantastic!
Being sick ALONG WITH the reminder that your body houses a uterus and all that goes along with it is the absolute pits. Get all the rest you can, love!
2 of our four furbabies hate the fireworks as well… we’ve started giving them hemp chews a couple hours before the chaos begins. Lovely little CBD dog treats, basically. It’s helped a lot.
We have the hemp chews for them and it seems to calm Shelby down until the fireworks start.
I’ve also heard that ‘herding dogs’ have a ‘high alert’ thing in their little brains that is difficult to slow down. Who knows… It takes a lot for Blazer Boy to get nervous and if he does, he calms right back down. Shelby Girl stays on super-high nervous mode for many hrs.
Maybe we should ask the vet for any recommendations for her.
That does make a lot of sense… Yeah, our beagle mix used to be around 18-wheelers and welding machines when she was super young (she was our small business trade-school mascot) and I’d even be able to bring her to fireworks shows without issue. Our springer spaniel was a hunting-school-flunkie and was used to hearing gunshots for duck hunting, so no issues with him to this day.
But once the 100%-apartment-dwelling older mini schnauzer joined the household, the beagle has joined in her fear and anxiety once the big booms start up. Hilariously enough, the youngest mini schanuzer basically takes advice from the springer spaniel and pays the noise absolutely no mind at all, and he tends to go check on the scaredy-cats throughout the rough evenings.
I really do wish they’d make an ordinance about it in our neck of the woods… between fearful pets and the MANY veterans in the area, the fireworks really aren’t needed outside of official celebrations. I’m sure the local ERs would love to stop treating the wounded amateur users as well!
LOL… Yes.
We live a ways ‘out in the sticks’ and the 4th & New Yrs brings out the fireworks, gunfire and improvised explosives.
There’s times the house shakes.
We still have some Trazodone from Blazer’s surgery, it’s a tranquilizer. I’d check with the vet first though. It certainly worked with Blazer!
Probably gonna spend the night cooking a date night meal with hubby at our vacation house rental. Plus hot tub. Usually fall asleep pre-midnight
Fingers crossed the sky stays clear to see moon and stars in desert valley. Clouds and rain predicted.
