Just who is willing to pay $600+ for a dot matrix printer in 2024
OLD OLD OLD JOKE
What did Oki name their data checking method for their printers?
Oki-Doki Data
I think the last time I’ve seen an Okidata dot matrix was over 30 years ago.
Right?
The person who took the pictures must have known they were documenting history.
Walmart has the Microline 321 for $245:

“The major difference between the Microline 320 and Microline 321 is the width of each printer. The
Microline 320 can handle 80 print columns (at 10 CPI). The Microline 321 can print up to 136 columns
(at 10 CPI).”
Definitely leaning towards the Microline 321 — it’ll be great to print out my COBOL and Fortran programs wide on fan-fold paper!
Holy old ass printer Batman, next woot will be a Novatel cell phone!
SEE!!!??? I knew if I kept all of my old tech long enough, it would come back in style!
OK… so, it’s got usb… and parallel. Who in the hell (other than me, of course) has a computer with a parallel port!?
Looks like there’s a PS/2 port as well!
I didn’t even see that!
I’ve got an old Packard Bell 486 in my shed with one. Hell, I even have the original monitor and printer too. Not sure if the two HP Pentium 1’s I have stashed somewhere have parallels but they might too.
The Dell Optiplex 780 (circa 2009) I cycled out of service last year still had a parallel port – and a serial port.
(Despite being a Core 2 Duo machine, it still kept up with the user. It was retired when she retired.)
So was it a business computer then? It seems like those would be more likely to keep that tech JIC compared to a home or gaming PC. I’ll have to take a look the next time my local auction place liquidates the lab’s and universities computers. When you have an IT dept at a job you don’t really look at what ports are on the back.
Yes. The parallel port has largely dropped out but a serial port (and PS/2 ports) are still around. Haven’t looked at the current models, but even as of 11th gen (Optiplex 7090), they’re present:
don’t forget the paper

It’s dot matrix, so your reports will need to be done with TeX.
But seriously – allowing for inflation, this is a pretty good price, equivalent to $225 in 1985.
