Philips Hue White A19 Bulb 4-Pack

Philips Hue White A19 Bulb 4-Pack

How do you refurbish a light bulb?

Thatā€™s the first thing I thought. And at about $8 a bulb not much of a bargain.

To be fair, a four pack of these bulbs normally goes for $49.99 ($12.50/bulb) at most big box stores. 35% off for refurb is pretty reasonable IMO. I picked up a pack of these the last time they were on Woot and theyā€™ve worked identical to the ones I bought new. Iā€™d buy more, but my house is fully hueā€™d now, except for my E12 bulbs.

Agreed, not much of a deal for woot!

You will also need the philips hue HUB to operateā€¦This a good deal for an existing Hue home

Agreed, great deal if youā€™re trying to hue your whole home. But not so good if you just want to play with the novelty of it in one room.

In for one pack. We have 4 bulbs already attached to our hub, and this will allow us to do a few more.

4 more, in fact.

This is a great price for refurb hues if youā€™ve already bought into it (like I did). I got a 2 pack of New on Prime Day for $30 so this seems like a steal. I also havenā€™t installed those 2 bulbs so I am probably going to pass on theseā€¦

If you have an Echo Plus, the hub is already built in to that. Not sure what other models have it built in.

ā€œRefurbishedā€ in this case means ā€œReturned by purchaser, checked out, verified in working conditionā€. People buy these and donā€™t realize they need the Philips Hue Hub, so they return them.

You betcha! We have a small house, so Iā€™m trying to decide where weā€™re going to put them. We will probably use a couple in the ceiling fan, as there is no way to turn it on from a wall switch.

I just bought a single for $15, (not on Prime Day), so this is absolutely a steal!

For those new to hue bulbs, IMO the best way to use them is with IFTTT triggers. It really expands what you can do with them. A few examples of what I have set up:

  • Geofencing: Lights turn on when I arrive home, lights turn off when I leave.
  • Ring doorbell: Lights come on whenever anyone pushes the doorbell. Thereā€™s about a 5 second delay between the doorbell press and the lights coming on so it looks like someone is home.
  • Tied to weather: My living room lights (color bulbs) turn blue in the morning if thereā€™s a greater than 50% chance of rain predicted for the day.
  • Alexa phrases: ā€˜Movie timeā€™ shuts off the living room lights and dims all the rest. ā€˜Bedtimeā€™ turns everything off and dims the bedroom lights.

You get the idea. Just browse through IFTTT and see all the ways you can tie into the bulbs.

I use Stringify to do string multiple actions with multiple smart appliance. My favorite is telling Alexa to ā€œGo the **** to sleepā€. Turns off the living room media system and living room light and turns on the bedroom light to get ready for bed.

I could spend hours making up new strings/trigger/what have you.

Awesome, thanks for the tip! Iā€™ve been frustrated more than once not being able to do certain if/and or then/and combos on IFTTT.

Or, if you go by our features :stuck_out_tongue:

This refurbished product is tested and certified to look and work like new. The refurbishing process includes functionality testing, basic cleaning, inspection, and repackaging. The product ships with all relevant accessories, a 90-day warranty, and may arrive in a generic box.

But I donā€™t wanna read!

Does anyone know or was it listed somewhere if these bulbs could be used outside in light fixtures?

They can be used outside as long as theyā€™re in a somewhat sheltered fixture (i.e. not directly exposed to rain). You might see a reduced lifespan due to more extreme heating/cooling conditions though. You may also want to double check the quality of wifi signal wherever you intend to mount them. I have one on my porch that does fine, but the two next to my garage door I switched back to regular LED because I couldnā€™t reliably get a signal to them.
