These were my first Woot! (I’m now at 100.). They are a great set if you don’t need the expansion capabilities. I’ve seen them a few bucks cheaper, but this is a good price. Buy with confidence.
A mdW Bargain Hunting Detective certified deal!
I bought an extremely similar set 13 years ago (not on Woot) and they have served me well. Very durable. The only caution I might throw out there is for people with large hands. If you got a pair of oversized mits, it might be difficult to get your hands inside the weights and on the grip.
And while I have seen these go on sale for a Lil less, this is still a good deal on this product and is certainly cheaper than buying traditional dumbells not to mention the savings on space.
Yeah, I have owned a set since 95 and they are a very nice product.
I have a set of these and they are quite durable and easy to use. I also had a set of NordicTrack adjustable dumbbells. While those were closer to “standard” loadable dumbells, they required specialized trays to work, meaning they took up space, had lots of plastic elements that wore out or got damaged quickly. The PowerBlock ones work great, are more compact and very solidly built. My only real complaint about the Personal Trainer set is that it isn’t compatible with any expansion sets, so you’re stuck at 50lb max each. When they’re on sale for $300, that just feels a bit high for something you can’t later upgrade. I did pay quite a bit less for these when I bought my set new (pre-pandemic).
Honestly, you don’t look a day over 94!
So these are 50 lbs each as purchased here for $299. 2 “dumbbells” and are not expandable in the future is that a safe summary?
Am I seeing this right that you can get the newest model that is also expandable for just $30 more? PowerBlock Elite Dumbbells | Home Use Dumbbells
They are sold out at the moment, but otherwise that seems like a more sensible option.
Take for example shoulder shrugs, and you will very quickly want more than 50 lbs per weight. For this reason I will pass on this deal.
Dumbbell Shrug Standards for Men and Women (lb) - Strength Level
Getting them in stock is a problem by itself.
Also keep in mind ordering from powerblock direct you will be getting a $70+ shipping charge.
To ship to NJ is $59. Small difference and your point is taken.
Sensible if you want to expand, it’s true. However, people should be aware that the first expansion set costs $150 and the second goes for an additional $150. So altogether, almost $740 with shipping. Certainly still cheaper (and less space) than traditional dumbells, but probably only for people who are serious about putting on significant mass. For someone like me 5’9" 170 in his 30’s who just wants to stay in reasonable shape and not get flabby, this personal trainer set should do just fine.
