Reckoning Crew: Friends Links & The Day of Reckoning

Jason, just wondering why this thread isn’t posted on the World of Woot Shirt thread?

it’s cross-posted on main woot blog - forum location a by-product of that ideally we’ll address.

Thank you, Snapster!

I agree, I notice that the top 10 has changed, and they have shifted around quite a bit.

3XL Shirts?

Here’s the answer: mumu.woot.com.

I thinkReverendLoki has an excellent point. I expect that after a while you will have an unchanging top-10 of shirts that will be impossible for any new shirt to dethrone even #10 in the week available to it.

The geek in me thinks that an exponential decay is in order

You mean like this?

given that it’s calculated on averages shirts sold per day, it actually may allow too much advantage to new shirts. in any case, it’s certainly a balance between what’s good for production and desired by members. Ideally, production capacity would be better.

nicely done.

I’ll be sad if Scales & Bubbles goes myself - that design & orange tee was surprisingly striking when worn. Someone brave needs to do an orange derby shirt.

perhaps worth clarifying that all 15 not immune are “on the block” as the top 10 won’t be officially calculated until Day of Reckoning. though graphically the above is good to see.

Ten is a very low number of shirts to save. The silkscreens can’t take up That much room to store. By trimming so severely, you show artists that their work is going straight into the trash can, and buyers that you don’t have much to sell. I’ll bet you could store 30 silkscreens more in a broken down van in the parking lot under a shade tree with the windows left open 3 inches.

It’s hard to imagine how any of these will look as worn since they’re all just jpegs on the website. The scales one looks terrible on the website.

Although I can imagine why someone in the Dallas area would like wearing a(n) (burnt) orange shirt.

As an artist, I have no problem with this. Most sales happen in the days immediately following the initial sale, and they drop off a lot after that. This system would keep even low-selling shirts around for two weeks after the first sale, which seems fair to me.

Besides, being dropped from the selling shirts section means that you’ll get your check for friends link sales more quickly  I wouldn’t want my shirt kept around forever if it wasn’t selling much any more.

It’s not the silkscreens storage, it’s the TIME and CREW it takes to produce so many designs, take down and set up new designs, while still producing a new shirt each and every weekday. It won;t take long for woot to have 100’s of designs in storage.
I can understand woots desicion to do this and it’s in keeping with their exclusivity statement.

Maybe you’re requesting a ‘Golden Oldies Day’ of availability once a month or each quater for folks to buy those older less universally popular designs?
If so, then you should propose THAT instead.

Out of the designs currently on the chopping block, the orange Scale & Bubbles is definitely the best one.

Yeah, the jpg image of this shirt didn’t impress me either, however the comment made by Snapster has really piqued my curiosity. I’m actually considering buying it just to see how it looks “live”, but I’m still not sure. Fortunately, I still have until noon on Monday to decide… before it is gone forever.

you should make a shirt off with extra old shirts and make it the 1.00 like BOCs

A thought—
What if you had one shirt per day and Saturday/Sunday would be the introduction of Woot-branded shirts? You could have friend links on those and throw them into their own seperate competition, the Woot Reckoning!

assuming Shirt.Woot has quality control …

People have already addressed the reasons we don’t have more shirts available, but I thought it was worth pointing out that 30 shirts would not equal 30 silkscreens. A lot of our shirts have been 6 colors, plus an underbase of white. We often do a different set of screens for the smaller size shirts, to optimize for their smaller ‘canvas’ size. That’s 14 screens per shirt, times the 30 shirts you mentioned, for a potential total of 420 screens.

It’s still not the reason we’re limiting to a lower number, but I thought I’d help clear that up a bit.

they do, the shirts dave wore in his modeling duties were rejects (at least the ones with logos) and i think they mentioned with the original trial on the screaming monkey shirts that one of the problems in delays was they’d had a lot of rejects…

Me too, even after I panned it…and I bought two of them on Sunday; just arrived today. My wife loves hers and I like the look too. and it’s ORANGE!
Looks MUCH better in person and ‘on’ than the online .jpg did.

Hope you got one in time!
