Retro Belt-Drive Turntable

Retro Belt-Drive Turntable

Suitable for playing records from the thrift store.

FYI, vinyl is far from dead. Bands are pressing new albums all the time. And reissuing old cd-albums onto vinyl.

However, I’ve been told by a turntable tech that these are far from good players. Not the worst things out there, but far from the quality that “real” turntables are. “Real” meaning not intended only for digitizing albums but for actually playing and enjoying albums.

My point about thrift stores. None of my vinyl would ever hit a turntable like this. My band has released a couple of records in the last 5 years.

Also, there are a couple of inexpensive turntables that can also digitize. The Audio Technica LP20 runs under $300 and won’t ruin your records.

Ah. Gotcha now. I thought you were implying vinyl is dead.

Then again, I’m not one to talk too loud. The tech ran a free turntable checkup. Took one glance at my needle and asked, “Just how old IS this needle?” Uh…I got it around 1986 or so…?

Yes, I bought a new needle. And a needle cleaning kit. And I got a free record cleaning kit a couple of Record Store Days ago. I think I’m in good shape for the next 35ish years…
