An ipod mini that rings my doorbell?

in for 3

want one of these, but don’t want to pay a monthly subscription fee ad infinitum. I’ll wait for a deal on a brand that doesn’t charge to save video footage.

These things are stupid. Anyone wanting to break in can see that and could just knock on the door instead.
No response, go for it!

Edit: motion-activated, ahh, nevermind

I have had one of these for a year. Has constant connectivity problems. Since it only records when motion is detected, it misses a lot. We often have mysterious post office deliveries that were not captured even though the mailbox is two feet from the doorbell.

Tech support says it is due to week wifi. The repeater is on the other side of the wall! Their solution is to reset the wifi on the doorbell when there is an issue. This involves taking the unit apart with a screwdriver and pushing a reset button inside.

I will be waiting for the Nest doorbell that is due out in February.

Agreed. For the base price of this unit (even discounted as it is here) a monthly charge is downright rude.

You don’t need to buy the subscription to still use the device.

Here is a quote from their website:

“You can still receive calls, intruder alerts, and motion alerts from your Ring products without a subscription. If you do not subscribe to Ring Protect Plan by the end of the trial, all recorded videos will be erased, new events will not be stored, and 24/7 Ring Alarm Professional Monitoring will cease.”

I have one of these and it works great, I did buy the plan though.

I like mine, the $30 a year for the back up is way cheaper than Nest’s. It’s not perfect but has served me well with minimal issues.

I didn’t have a wired doorbell before so I like that I can charge it every few months!

Might get one for my back yard…

Have one, works great. I paid the $30 a year for them to keep my videos in case someone walks up to it and smashes it. It can be set to motion or press of the button.

I’ve had no issues with connectivity, weather (-18*F through 90+), or anything although I have a overhang above my door that probably prevents it from getting pelted by rain or snow.
