4.5 Stars over at Casa.com

I notice the “open box” version of this is under the Sellout! tab in “Moofi Whiskey Tango Boxtrot” for $5 less. This must be an omen because my Sunbeam is acting up and I’ve been casually looking at new irons. I was expecting to spend around $40 but I’ve never owned a Rowenta so I went ahead and bought this one. Figure the extra $10 is worth it because Rowenta seems to be a highly rated brand and this appears to be a pretty good deal. Don’t know if I’m wise to get one without auto shutoff though. I iron a lot and actually kinda enjoy it, but guess I’ll just have to be more attentive with this iron. Hope I made the right call.

Great looking unit, but the lack of auto shut-off was the deal breaker for me

I own a Rowenta. Great Iron but auto shut off is a definite “Must Have”.

I would not own a non auto shut off iron.

DITTO!, weklund…

Best iron we’ve ever owned at a phenomenal price. You can spend less and be buying an iron every six months if you like. You would do much better to buy this one and have it for years.

Does anyone know if the cord on the iron is retractable? You know, just in case I want to use it to go fishing or something.

No- it does not retract.

I like how they turned the lack of an auto shut-off as a positive.

“NO Auto shutoff - So the power never turns off until you unplug the iron”

The no shut-off feature is geared to sewers who are sewing and ironing between each step. It’s a time saver and less frustrating when waiting each time for the iron to heat up. I just get in the habit of always unplugging when done, to make sure I never forget to turn it off.

The removal of the auto shut off feature is specifically for quilters, which I am not but at this price, I jumped.

Good timing by the way Woot. Our current iron has started to smell like a crème brulee when we turn it on. I don’t think it’s supposed to do that…

Purchased this a couple weeks ago, and build quality is fantastic,

As for the no auto-shutoff, I’m going to buy a small plug in timer, or even cut the plug off of this one and replace it with a timer-plug.

Don’t forget to unplug it when you cut off the plug to replace with a timer on…just sayin’…

My goodness, not sure how humanity managed to exist for thousands of years before “auto shut off” was invented!! Such a mental and physical strain to unplug a hot iron! RIP, personal responsibility.

Is it Linux compatible?

Glad to see your comment. I’m in my early 60’s and have ALWAYS unplugged my iron as soon as I finished, just never wondered why, it’s just a reflex. Seeing your comment made me think about it and figured it must have come from all my years of ironing before the age of auto-shutoff. I will need to be more attentive though when it comes to interruptions like answering a phone call or things that might draw me away.

It will stare at Linux and spew steam at it derisively.
