Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB SATA/300 7200RPM 16MB Hard Drive

Having MAJOR power problems with my hard drive… AFTER I put a bunch of information on it, of course. I gathered various smaller HD’s together and put all of the information on this 750gb, and for about a week I loved life. Then, without warning, the drive failed. It was part of a dual-bay external enclosure with another 750, and the OTHER 750gb works great still. Now, whenever I put the re"certified" drive with ANY power source, it proceeds to short that power source out. It’s happened with 3 separate external-type power sources. The only other hope I’m holding out is that I’ll connect it to one of my big daddy power supplies from a desktop and the extra juice will work.

That, or it’s going to fry both the drive AND my desktop’s power supply, at which point I’ll have to consider going postal at Seagate’s offices. (Not really NSA, it’s a joke, so BACK OFF!)

I got a refund, but no word from Woot, anyone know what happened?

I checked and the order was shipped to us because FedEx cannot deliver to an military installation with an AP, APO, or FPO address. The order was refunded because of this.

UPDATE:

They basically told me to F off. Here’s a portion of the email:

“First, we don’t support you installing our internal drives into a 3rd party external enclosure. Second, I cannot verify warranty on this refurbished drive if you do not provide a serial number. Unfortunately, even if the drive itself is under warranty, the data stored on the drive is not.”

So basically, even though the drive DID screw up, there’s really nothing I can do with all of my lost information. At least one good thing has come of this: I know I’m never going to buy a Seagate product again, referbed or otherwise.
