Shark Robot w/Self-Empty Base

Shark Robot w/Self-Empty Base

It’s a good vacuum. In fact I just paid $20 more for it less than a month ago right here on this site. Heeyyy! What’s up with that?

I paid $800 for this from Shark.com just a few months ago!

Wrong website. Try https://www.sharkclean.com/ . This model UR1000SR appears to be discontinued.

This is tempting. Looking to replace my Eureka robot that seems to just move dirt around and wanders around in circles aimlessly until the battery is low.

I’ve been ready to splurge on an expensive Roomba, but this seems like it will still be better than what I have now.

If you get one you’ll so impressed compared to the older ones. After the first couple of runs it gets the lay of your room, then goes back and forth meticulously, saving time and battery. We have a very long haired dog and it works great. And no more dumping the dust bin every 15 minutes.

Also might bite on this one, we have the model that doesn’t have the self-empty base and love it. Only down side is every six months or so we need to replace the whiskers/filters but we run it every morning so if we went to twice a week it’d probably every year or two.

I’m always skeptical about buying anything refurbished. If it doesn’t work correctly, is it returnable? Anyone have issues with refurbished items?

Went thru 2 of these units. 1 broke after 5 hours of use, the other after 14 hours of use. In both cases cheap plastic parts in the wheels broke. AMZN refunded both purchases and I upgraded to the iRobot.
I woudn’t waste my time.

Can you exclude areas of a room? We have a super thick rug that our current one gets stuck on and we have to go get it from the jungle when it goes on one of its adventures again.

You can limit the rooms or parts or whatever when you do a cleaning not on a schedule. Scheduled cleanings do the random walk, it seems, even when your house is totally mapped. Annoying but not a deal breaker for us.

My in-laws got a new one of these at this price during an Amazon Lightning Deal about a month ago and they love it. They have multiple high shedding dogs and it handles it. They empty the base a couple of times a week and have to clean underside of the vacuum about every other week. They’re wanting a second one for another level of the house. I’ll send them this link. Not sure where they stand on refurbs though.

Hi there, this item comes with a 90 day limited warranty. If it arrives and there’s a problem reach out to customer service. They’ll help.
Here’s the link to the warranty.

(Please Note: I’m not employed by Woot, but I volunteer to help in the forums.)

It seems fitting that my first thought upon seeing a photo of this sort of item, with a base station behind the main unit, is that it is some sort of toilet. You’re much better off with a traditional vacuum that you operate yourself.

You can also buy magnetic strip (search amazon) and place around areas you don’t want it to go across. I use it to protect from getting stuck in the deep wells of the sliding doors.

Purchased the “factory reconditioned” version in January for $90 more than this and has been working great, including remotely via the app. Not sure what the difference is with a refurbished vs factory reconditioned though.

I used to be skeptical but then I started shopping on Woot! I’ve been shopping here for a few years now and have purchased a few refurbished products. Never had a problem with them.

I have 2 of these shark robots (slightly different model - also with the self empty base) both refurbs. One runs every morning on one level and the other runs 2 times a week on another level. I’ve purchased replacement brushes, filters, etc. because they run a lot. They do great job picking up pet hair.

Just keep in mind that this model requires light to operate - so they wont clean at night or early hours if you don’t keep the lights on. And, you have to pickup large objects - anything thicker than chocolate chips will jam the main brush. I’ve had it pickup drill bits without jamming.

My track record with woot is great. I’ve got a house full of refurbs and few regrets.

QUESTION FOR THE SHARK OWNERS: will it do the entire floor or do I have to take it from room to room?

Also, some things I just wont buy refurbished like - bidets, watches, cellphones, headphones/earphones. The thought that someone else may have used them is icky…

Some of the refurbished stuff ive bought - roomba, neato, shark, Yamaha receivers, monitors, echo dots, Netgear Orbi, Ring, Ninja blender, HP laptops, sony bluray player, HP touchpad - just to name a few

And I lied earlier - i did buy a couple of earphones. Still a bit icky.

It will do the entire floor. It takes a few runs to map your entire floor. It will return to the base to empty itself a few times - and return to start where it left off. If the battery gets low it will return to base, recharge, and resume where it left off - and keep doing so till it is finished the floor. If you have doors between rooms, it will unlock them with a long arm - kidding! Keep doors open. It will travers rooms to clean. You can then create rooms using the app (or create multiple rooms within a room) and have it clean a specific room on demand. What it does not do and I wish it did, is allow you to schedule which room to clean each day. It will do a full run whenever you schedule it to. It can also be scheduled to do only one run a day. Meaning, you cant tell it to start once at 6 am and then again at 4pm on the same day.

Regarding rooms within rooms - I have the kitchen split into 3 areas - around the island, around the stove, and around the pantry area. Sometimes I’ll have it do an ad hoc run around one or two or all three of these areas. On an ad hoc run you can specify which rooms it should clean. On a scheduled run this is not possible.

Its not 100% accurate when told to clean specific rooms. Also, the app requires that rooms overalp a little so the unit has continuity. So lets say you have the kitchen and the office on either end of the level. You cant have just 2 rooms. You have to define rooms in between - say the dining room, living room etc. And they must all overlap each other a little bit. See image.

Can’t you put up electronic walls? I have a Samsung, two Neato’s and a DeeBot. The Deebot is by far the best when it comes to setting up areas you don’t want it to go and it’s not half bad on cleaning. The worst part is, small tank. You have to empty it every time it runs. I have it doing our 1st floor, all hardwood with a few area rugs and it’s about 2000ft of space. Takes one trip back to the charger to do it all. Got a neato in the basement (all carpet) and Samsung does the 2nd floor (all carpet and only does the catwalk/landing. Another neato (D80) does the master bedroom and bathroom. Normally can go 3 runs before tanks need emptying. I can see the Shark unit being nice if you were going away for the week and needed to empty the tank.
