Shirt peeling?

Hey friend. Some of that is by design for a “distressed” look.

I’ve only washed mine once and haven’t worn it yet, but I have those distressed marks in the same place as yours.

I will definitely return to this picture as a comparison after I wash it a few more times.

Yes, @bsmith1 is correct that the design is intentionally distressed …

… as opposed to the unintended distressing that this thread is about.

Hey thanks that makes feel so much better @Narfcake. I took it out of the package and left so I didn’t really look at it until I was out in the full sun

It happens…I got fooled myself earlier this year. It’s kinda sad that while not all the time it happens enough that a printing error is the first conclusion but c’est la vie I guess.

Explanation is not helping. Rarely wear my favorites. Gentle wash, no dryer used, but not taking any more into my collection.
I really dont like the worry in keeping them separate.
Sorry to think the shirt designers are getting less income because wooters stop buying.

I don’t. Inside out, yes. Washed with everything else? Yes. Into the dryer because I’m lazy it’s convenient? Yes. The vast majority have been fine.

At least for me, print durability issues have tended to crop up within the first few washes. After that, it’s just natural degradation; regular plastisol screen prints crack and flake over time too, y’know.

Funny, I just sent feedback to Woot about how I won’t be ordering shirts anymore. Then I decided to see if there was something on the forums about it.

I have shirts from 2008 that are still great, but shirts I have bought recently have the printing falling off after the first wash.

I would pay more if the shirts returned to the previous quality!

Every couple years I check to see if this is better. Apparently not.

Given that this is a complaint thread, folks who HAVE NOT had an issue are unlikely to be chiming in here that it’s been fine.

I’m not denying that all is perfect; I actually had a couple recent shirts with print failures myself (that CS has addressed already). It happens. – and because a batch may have had issues, it could very well be someone’s entire order.

Shirt.woot has been doing all DTG since 2016, with catalog orders being DTG even before that. Out of my hundreds that I’ve ordered through the years, only a handful of mine had premature failures. CS took care of them.

Should it happen? Preferably not, but it does. Printing shirts was and still involves labor, and humans aren’t perfect in regularly checking if the equipment is running at spec.

FWIW, even the old Woot had a long running thread on Q/C, only it was for other issues. Back then, it was more of the incorrect shirt size, incorrect shirt or an off-centered print.

(Note that I am not staff. I just volunteer to help out on the forums.)

So I would like to describe my experience with woot! over the past 13 or so years and show some of what I have seen.

As mentioned, I’ve shopped here for a long time. The communities artrists here are amazing and I love many of the designs I’ve found. Enough that when a shirt I really like degrade enough I will buy another to replace it. But, as many of the people in this thread have brought up, the recent quality (the past 5+ years)there has been a steep degrade. Ironically, to the point where some of my 12 year old shirts look better than my 2 year old shirts.

For example, (top) was purchased “Order Date: Jun 15, 2023”, and (bottom) was purchased “Order Date:May 28, 2013”

Another example I have… (top) was purchased “Order Date: Jun 15, 2023”, and (bottom) was purchased " Order Date:Feb 24, 2014"

I think its fair to say that while the bottom shirt is more tattered, the print has held up much better. I would also like to say, it seems the newer shirts have a much thicker ink/paint and I think this is why the shirts are degrading so fast. Once a piece comes loose it would prefer to take more with it than simply fall away.

Another set of old and new I hole is the Adventure awaits shirt. This time the new shirt is in better condition, but only because the old shirt was bought after the widely noticed quality change. (top) was purchased " Order Date: May 12, 2020", and (bottom) was purchased " Order Date: Jun 24, 2024"

In less than 5 years the graphic became a simple mustard stain.

Many of my shirts are in similar condition. Below is a set of shirts bought in the last 5 years that have gone from beautiful designs to faded plain black shirts. Funny enough, with the tiny bits left I can still mostly recognize which shirt is what design… but in no way could anyone else see and i definitely dont wear them anymore aside from laundry day.

Below is just some more examples of shirt quality vs purchase date:

" Follow the River" Order Date: Jun 15, 2023

The Golden Ring” Order Date: Jun 15, 2023

" Only Memories" Order Date: May 12, 2020

April Showers” Order Date: May 12, 2020

Rainy Souls” Order Date: Aug 17, 2013
This one lasted..

Really hope this quality issue gets fixed… I really loved these shirts and am genuinely sad to see the state of quality coming from this business that I though took pride in its product.

So these shirt prints are only supposed to last 90 days now?

Maybe my completely unworthy 2 cents, but I have purchased at least a dozen or two shirts from Woot within the past two years, and none of them have been completely garbage or were ruined in one wash. I can’t yet speak to any shirt lasting 5ish or more years, but I also buy some much more expensive brand-name work shirts that don’t even last 5 years (and I treat them like they are made of precious metals), so it might be a high standard some are holding these to. How you wash these shirts and other things above and beyond can help them last longer, it’s not purely black and white. I have purchased printed shirts outside of woot (Amazon, etc.) that have been far worse, as well. So I am sure some of the shirts are terrible, but I would like to share a somewhat positive perspective on what I have purchased, also.

That is an incredibly low standard to ask for.

Also, if you are buying expensive shirts that only last 5 years, then please understand that being expensive doesn’t mean high quality. Perceived value pricing is a real thing.

I was simply pointing out what others had said happened to them had not happened to me, not that I say that is or should be the standard.

What is to say that what I paid for wasn’t high quality? Seems you’re assuming a lot, basically that everything I’ve said is automatically based on incorrect assumptions. I could just as easily dismiss or discount everything you’re saying or will say. Does a high quality shirt always last 5 years no matter what? Your argument seems to say “high quality” must mean x, y, and z, while I’m pointing out high quality may not mean what it used to in this era of fashion/clothing, which is a largely accepted concept.

As I have 40yr old print shirts that get worn periodically and for many years worn a ton, so much more than any wooot shirt and those still look new never once worrying about inside out.

As I purchase 42 shirts from woot all In a couple days now a several years ago around the beginning of the new print method and didn’t worry about until the threads showing a couple I had purchased with peeling I washed a couple turning inside out putting in lingerie bag and came out after 1st delocate was with design almost gone and just touching it came off more and more

I have shirts that are 30yrs old with the same type of transfer as woot and they have zero peeling.

This means it’s a giant woot problem and should be dealt with.

Almost all the woot shirts I have purchased and worn a ton less than other sources with old transfer and this new horrible transfer - are all faded and worn more than ANY other source. We are talking comcert shirts, souvenir/travel shirts, just random department or small store shirts, Walmart shirts mass produces some with same style like the NASA ones that sort of emulate Warhol and countless others. These are vibrant, look new despite being worn 5, 10, 100 times or more any woot shirt.
And holes, so many holes in woot shirts or mulitple source shirts and same exact shirt blank from non woot have no issues with holes.
How is that even possible.

There is a limited issue here, that did also effect a couole non woot, as I was wearing a giant sterling belt buckle with a sandcast sculpture and stones and this turned out to be a culprit in creating holes in a couple shirts. I figured that out and while it did put some holes in woot shirts it also did on a couple non woot shirts but was a one off and apart from those the issue with woot and non issue from any other source stands on own.
Don’t wear problem buckles with non button up now and have had zero issues with button-ups and the several similar buckles.

I’m not sure how many woot shirts I have total probably several over 100 and how many I’ve tossed due to not even usable as a shirt to wear when doing work that may cause a problem with clothing. Probably thrown out more than 20

The fact that the print is greatly decayed after 5 years of normal use.

Yes, my argument does imply that for something to be considered high quality it should meet and surpass a standard.

What does high quality mean for you?

Disregarding the obnoxiously dismissive tone and the fact that you didn’t answer my question but just handed it back to me… I thought I was being cordial in my responses and you literally put out a picture of RDJ rolling his eyes. You seem like a dismissive jerk so I’m sure this response will be met with an open mind /s.

My conditions for a standard quality shirt would be a shirt made of suitably durability and printing quality to last beyond a decade. If my average walmart shirt from the mid 00’s can achieve this, I don’t think I’m asking much to say that is standard quality.

I await your lack of response, unnecessarily argumentative answer, or sincere apology for rudeness and wish to rejoin discourse considerately with a response to the wuestion I asked and you overlooked.

It is hard to argue when I don’t think you really attempted to read or understand my argument to begin with. The fact that you think your responses have been cordial is exactly the reason that response was given. If making erroneous assumptions I even pointed out, being aggressive and combative, and not attempting to actually understand what I am expressing is cordial, then yes you’ve been great. I honestly don’t have to time to argue all day with someone whose initial response was dismissive, and only continued to get worse. You might need that thing called a mirror, and to take a glance.
