I have an aversion to Singer machines. They are not what they once were IMO. My old one drove me nuts so I purchased the Brother C6000i and it works like a champ with a ton of extra feet.
I went to visit the kiddos for the arrival of my first grandbaby and they needed a machine and lessons and grammy was there to the rescue. I bought them a Singer in the $200 range and as I was demo-ing the machine at the house, I couldn’t get the feed dogs back up once dropped. So we went back to the store to return it and the display model had the same malfunction. The store happily refunded my $$ and I bought them a $200 Brother instead. I was roped into sewing a Halloween costume for the baby on my last visit and their Brother worked perfectly again.

My wife got a Brother from Costco about a year ago and the thing broke. Not just the needle, but some piece of the arm or something it attaches to. She was just hemming my jeans.
Can anyone say if Singer is actually worth the price premium over Brother? Will this machine be more robust, reliable, and long lasting?

I come from a long line of Singer users and I can tell you that if properly maintained they last forever! The one I have currently is over 30 years old (and still works great) - I’m buying this one as a treat to myself because of all of the built in stitches.
“And there can’t be
a small spaghetti dealership next to the Singer Centre across from the cineplex because there is no cineplex and there is no Singer Sewing Centre.”
And on that note, I’m going to hold out for the Woot Overlords to offer this with the serger again. I have neither and would love to buy them in a set. For folks who plan to make their own clothing/costumes/cosplay outfits, the two together really will make a polished outfit.
